You will probably find it difficult to bring the Girl back to your room in any of the larger Hotels as the Lifts are usually "guarded" at night, particularly if there is a Bar or Karaoke in the Hotel.

They are certainly less strict in HCMC at the smaller Hotels but would pay to check it out first before being turned away! Just tell them your Wife is coming back with you later!

Your suggestion will not work in Vietnam, the front desk can tell the different between your girl friend or your wife.
This is the rule that apply to all hotels from Mini to 5 stars. You can bring any visitor to the room before 10pm only when your GF have a valid ID. After 10pm, you must book a 2nd rooms for your GF. Some smaller hotel (mini to 2 stars) may offer 1/2 price for the 2nd room or no charge depend on how bad they want your business. My suggestion is check out the smaller hotel and tell the manager/owner you going to bring a girl back at night. Most likely the manager/owner will suggest book a 2nd room or offer 1/2 price to you. Just say no no no. If no deal make Walk out and try other one. I know many mini hotels will more than happy to rent a room for you.
I normally travel with a friend. I book two rooms but only register one room and leave the 2nd room for our GF at night. It always work for us in any hotels.
