Last night went to the York with Supernova and PPierre, who arrived around 7:30 pm and came to the York as soon as he had checked in. There were some new CIS and chinese faces around. About the Afros. Well to be honest I dont have a clue if there were any new faces.

Has anybody noticed a change in bar entrance charging policy in the last week?
One evening last week I decided to look into the small bar in the Imperial Suites (opposite end from the disco). I was asked to pay, (drink included) I can't recall how much but it was more than a drink. The place was dead and I declined. This bar is very hit and miss and the drinks are expensive. Not worth the extra premium.
Last night I was part of a group of four and we were asked to pay 30 Dhs (1 drink included) to enter Jockeys. The first time ever for me and I am quite well known to the door man and the group had spent quite a bit of cash in the bar the previous few days. I wondered if it may have been because this time we had an Indian freind with us? Again we declined and went to Rocafellas where the 50 Dhs (2 drinks included) charge was far more reasonable considering the entertainment on offer.
Are bars now applying the entrance charge across the board? While I agree that the same policy should apply to all nationalities it woud have been better if they went the other way!

Yes I think the bars are now applying the entrance charge across the board it seems. The other day I went to the Imperial suites with an American, Egyptian and an Indian friend and they charged us all 25 dhs entrance. This included a drink which is not so bad considering the drink costs approximately 18 dhs anyway.
I went with my American friend to the Jockeys a couple of days later and the man at the entrance was not at his station ( probably gone to see a man about a dog) so we just walked in. When we left he was at his station and I noticed he was asking some guys, who wanted to go in, to pay the entrance charge.
At the Rockefellas again I and my American friend had to shell out 50 dhs entrance charges and were given one drink coupon. That is pretty steep. Only at the York the situation remains the same. There is a split policy at the York, Caucasians still get in free and other races have to pay 50 dhs for two drinks coupons.
I agree that it would have been better if the bars had changed their policy the other way and all were allowed in free. But I guess economics rule.

I would add that the charges seem to be in place at the weekend. I do not remember getting charged during the week (except I. Suites)
If this is a trend, it will cerrtainly make Cyclone look like a better deal.
