Hello. I used the search engine for FR outside Thailand and didn't get any threads that gave specifics about hotels in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
I'm thinking of going there in May and would appreciate info for recommended hotels, or hotels to be avoided. I plan to do a few dives and whatever else there is to do there. Any info on the above topics would be most welcome. Thanks.

Well, I can partly help you since I have no first-hand knowledge. But I plan to have that problem resolved on my next trip.

On the first you will find also a link to the Bayon Guide site that has all the hotels of Cambodia and other points of interest.
The second one is about getting there.
This is not realy the forum you should ask this, since it is about Thailand. Ofcourse a lot of us know a lot but better you check out a forum like http://www.km11.com which is the cambodian counterpart of this forum.
I think that should answer all your questions, even the ones you did not know you had.

Thanks Blatt. Some of those sites I've seen. I do think this is the right place to ask this since it's FR outside Thailand and I've gotten helpful pointers about PP from this forum.
Other forums tend to be article based and don't give enough first hand and purely honest info on what to expect. Enjoy your trip.

Oh, but I did not mean that it was wrong to ask. But there are better forums to ask. The strenght of asking this forum is that you can put an answer in a frame of reference.
A) is it better or worse then thailand.
B) the guy giving you the info what is his frame of reference. If he likes to spend $500 per night on a hotelroom in BKK and he tells you cambodia stinks, then you can figure out cambodian standards are lower then thai standards.
So answers given here are of maybe greater value then given on say KM11, but that site has a more complete overview then BKKTONITE. That was what I meant to say.

BC, I`ve stayed down Sihanoukville a couple of times, if you like the beach its great.
At your hotel, get them to organise a cab for you to go down there, 20 usd to go down and book the driver to come back for you,20 usd return
The town centre is rather small but plenty of places to eat and drink btw take a girl with you from PP thats the best, there are a couple of brothel areas just out side the town but they are dumps.
Check this site out plenty of info on where to stay, Pay no more than 20 usd per night.

Edit in: rooms start at 6 usd per night, I paid 10 usd for a room with a/c double bed, clean bath room.

Thanks for the info SO5. I had a feeling you'd been there. Good links, I'm looking forward to checking it out in May and the price sure sounds right.
I'll only be going one way from PP though as I plan to take the boat to KohKong and cross back into Thailand that way.
BTW, if you guys didn't know Air Asia has flgihts to PP now and if you book on the right days it's 999 each way + tax. I've flown Air Asia 3 times and for short flights they're just fine, although a little late sometimes.

a highly recommended place to stay will be:

but it`s to advise as well to make a reservation in advance `cause when I tried to get in, and that had been in the monsoon-season last July, the house was fully booked for days.
So I`ve chosen the khmer running guesthouse next door left which was a real good deal after all. It was guest friendly, very clean, big room, remote controlled noiseless ac, tv, shower with hot running water included breakfast forr 12 dollars `cause I stayed longer then 2 nights.
Another place was recomended to me from a nice brasilian guy who I met in PP before:

It`s told that the owner/manager shoot be very helpful with his knowledge about Snooky.
IMHO it is really not necessary to bring a girl along from PP to Snooky with you. I for one missed the top spots like "Biba" & the chicken farm but there are still so many beauties at so many venues left that it wasn´t any unamusing at all!

A few years back I spent a few days at the Seaside Hotel ( http://www.cambodiahotels.biz/seaside/ ) which I highly recommend if you want to be on Ochheuteal Beach, my favorite beach in the area. Nice clean rooms, quiet hotel, attentive staff. It's a little quiet in the immediate neighborhood although there are some nice seafood restaurants nearby. The town center is only a short moto ride away. Paid around $30 US, can be booked through Precision Reservations now at $36.
If Biba is still there, by all means go to experience it! Lots of girls to pick from on the dance floor; I took one to the short time rooms in back, about 20 steps from the dance floor.
