My Tg (now ex tg) has been working in zurich Switzerland.
A few years ago she told me that she had put her name down to work in Champagne bars in Switzerland but due to health problems she had at the time she couldnt go. (this problem came back to haunt her and led to us going our seperate ways).
Some you you may know that most cities have their red light district-In Zurich its the area around Langstrasse and Neiderdorf.
Langstrasse is full of bars, sex shops etc. It is host to hundreds of nationalities ranging from Brazil, Dominican Rep, Eastern Europe and most notably THailand. (surprise surprise)
There is a large Thai community in Zurich with stores selling freshly imported fruit, veg and fish (comes in on TGair) Thai moweey/cd. THere are many restaurents-some of which are better than many in Thailand- (but feck*ng expensive!!)
The girls get 8 month contracts and work in the champagne bars.
Most bars will have a mixture ladies from different nationalities and usually have a couple of Thais.
For those who are interested they get a salary, deductions for basic accomodation (some nice some horrid) plus commission for drink sales plus tips.
THey only drink CHAMPAGNE
Typical price range in swiss francs (I convert 2.2SF=£1.00UK/£/baht around 62baht)
Lady Drink 25-50sf ( top price 1,400 baht)
Half bottle champagne 190-250sf (top price (7,000 baht)
Reg bottle 390-600sf (top price around 17,000 baht)
Magnums and upwards $$$$$$$$$$$$
She had to do a pole dance. This is called show time and last 1 song track about 2-3 mins. She had never danced before and even had me trying to teach her!!!!

It sounds a lot (and considering that a cashier at Tesco's Bangkok will earn 60 000 Baht per year, it is). However, for Switzerland, that's a pretty poor deal. A cashier at the local supermarket will make the equivalent of 1.5 million Baht.
(Just my 2 cents' worth.)

First of all I apologise for the dumb arse statement of 'some of you may know that most cities have red light districts' Quelle un prat !!!
anyway...
She was determined to do this job in Switzerland-she said she wanted to acheive something by herself.
She went back 7 months ago on her second tour-all was going well until one day she collapsed.
Surprise surprise her liver was disfunctioning & had blood disorders. Before she left for Switzerland I told her that drinking between 1 & 6 bottles of Champagne per day is not the same as a couple of Heinakans and Thai lady drinks. Every day mow mow. I stayed with her on her first week and twice had to carry her back home. But as with everything she adapted and the lure of the Franc took its hold.
One of her 'customers' took care of her as I was working in China at the time. He looked after her and she has never left his side since.
So going back to the original thread there is a major step up for bar/gogo girls if they can get work in certain overseas countries. Fortunes to be made beyond there wildest rookie bar girl dreams.
There are loads of girls whi I met who have married swiss guys and as with all marriages some last and some dont. I got to know a whole crowd of Thai/swiss couples and heard lots of stories.
I know she is happy and on the mend and also financially secure for life.

I'm not surprised re pay in switzerland mansaturday. Switzerland has certainly got its house in order and from an outsiders view looks like it takes care of its swiss nationals-hence their ability to keep all these bars going.
Yes, she is being exploited but at one of the top runs of the ladder.
The money was what she took home with her after all deductions.
