Hi Bros, Just interested in your opinions, experiences and feedback. I'll get this started by offering myself up to probably a liberal amount of flamming but as they say, "Do what you like..." Recently I married a former BG and have been very happy. I have planned carefully to try to make sure her new home in California suits her. I have also read extensively about Thai culture and do's and don'ts. In my relationship with her I have done a lot of passive observation before and after the marriage. I have to say I have been very pleasantly surprised with her behavior and attitudes. When I first considered taking the plunge I was positively wracked with paranoia about doing this. Having been filleted in my last divorce I was very gun shy about getting screwed over again. However I continue to be happily surprised by my wife's behavior towards me and life in general. I am happier with the decision I have made here the more time that goes by. Like I said I have been very careful along the way not to pound on the table to her about my attitudes. Rather from the start I let her set her own course and I sat back and watched...carefully... I also like Thaiprivateeye's tagline: TG definition= Cunning like a Fox, with a mind like a goldfish. While my wife has a sharp mind and the wits to match she is very sweet and family oriented. She seems happily oriented in this way as well; in other words it doesn't appear to be simply obligatory. I believe that she understands that I do respect her and her family and she really seems to flourish with that. I have also been struck by the way the BGs seem to be so focused upon living a more normal lifestyle once their time in the bar is over. Everyone that worked in her former bar has been married either this year or last. In fact the Bar has now closed and the owner is married to an Aussie. Anyway I know I am too long winded but I just was interested in your thoughts and experiences. Who knows maybe this is the next reality TV show...

Hopefully she doesn't get tarnished by the American yentas running around. Sometimes Americanization is a bad thing, particularly when it happens to women from foreign soil. Like Eddie Murphy said (back when he was funny), keep her away from American women, because they'll throw a monkey wrench in your whole program.

I couldn't agree more. Loknar (BKK regular) & I have talked about this a lot. Often marriages in the US between farangs go bad for this reason. My last wife was a complete biotchhhhhh and her skank friends were no better basically slags and mingers of the worst sort. I remember telling her once when she quoted one of their statements about me that they weren't really a good source of sound advice from looking at their lives. Not one of whom had ever been successful at anything but getting fat and having the general disposition of a hippo fighting for a spot in a mud hole. It is my hope that my new wife will avoid these types as she currently does in LOS. I had considered joining the Wat here at one point but my wife isn't Buddahist having converted several years ago after her mother did as a protestant. I was a little bummed about this at first because I thought it would have been nifty to hang out in Wats like I used to do as a kid at our Presbyterian Church. I was looking forward to the Thai potlucks and all... Looks like were back to church...Hope I don't get taken out by any blue lightening...I'm not really a church person but I always did like the part about Mary Magdelan... I guess I was hopeful to find "good" influences but I'm really no longer worried abou that with her. She has proven herself to avoid bad company as near as I can tell. She knows what a gossip is and doesn't much care for them. She is a happy person too and it shows. People tend to seek out others of the same disposition at least that's what I believe but I will still be on guard against the gold diggers and biotchhhes.
