Fellow Brothers, need your advise here as i'm going to be in a sticky situation. I'm returning to Bangkok this December but my Parents are coming along and don't know where to take them out for the night, they are staying 4 nights in Bangkok. In the day no problem as there is many things to do like shopping, temples and so on. I know about all the nightlife that you don't want your parents to know, My old man likes to have a drink and go from bar to bar and don't want to take him down Suk, patpong. I allready thought I take him down Khao san road but after that i'm really scratching my head. so is there anywhere else around Bangkok where there be plenty of bars in a small area away from the p4p scene. Thanks in advance Guys.

Now if you wanted just one bar I would suggest Bully's tavern on Sukhumvitt. I think they keep the P4P girls out of there. You could try a bunch of bars on Washington Square (Sukhumvitt Soi 22) Not much P4P girls there, mainly good old boy bars each with a limited amount of servers who for the most part have their P4P days behind them. You could hit the Irish/English Pubs (Robin Hood and Dubliners) they are both in the same area.

Yes, thee are a few bars in Convent Road and along Silom without having to get 'sucked in " (?) to Patpong 1 or 2. Then of course you could take both your parents out for the evening to the Tawandang German Brewery on Narathiwat Ratchanakarin where you can have ameal and drink fro a selection of their beers and watch the Thai cabaret show of singers and dancers - al very proper and modest - it's so proper, you could take the vicar or the Pope there, or even your daughter if you have one. The full address is 462 / 61 RAMA 3, Yannawa but at weekends it is advisable to phone toi bok a table. 6626781114 - 6. There are also quitea number of bars on Sukhumvit itself and down soi 33 where either they don't have hostesses, or if they do, they don't actually physically attempt coitus with you before you sit down and order a beer. The degree of time it takes after you have placed your order varies from bar to bar...............or at least the negotiation leading to an understanding. I'm sure that there are many other stretches and pockets of Bangkok bt I would think you'd have to ask an experienced venturer like Deep File or seajohn to know of these places. Good luck, but as a previous poster pointed out, maybe your father is at this very moment thinking of ways to excuse himself and so venture out on his own.

Yo, I know you stated you didnt want patpong...and I couldnt agree more (overpriced trap) but I must say that my mom and pops came to visit me in Thailand 2 times and the Elvis impersonator (sp?) in patpong is great... I just got back from atlanta and my Dad went on and on about how fun the 2 nights we all went and saw "the thai elvis"...I am sure you know where it is but if not...its one of the first bars on the left hand side when you enter patpong soi1.. You should put it on your "to do list" it is alot of fun with the folks... my dad is also a huge movie buff and couldnt believe the gold seats at siam discovery were only 12 bucks (at the time) he was in heaven.. we also had a great time at muey thai matches the time they visited me when I was living in Phuket... I would also recommend dinner on top of Baan Yan Tree in bangkok...not terribly expensive for farang standards but an awesome experience. on the other end...I thought my mom was gonna die at jatujak...hot and crowded...but she was a trooper lol! no matter what you end up doing it will be some of the best memories you will forge with the folks..at least they are for me... cheers bond, atl PS..Thaid Up may be on to something as well...my dad was too old at the time but your dad might want some "alone" time

Good ideas above. My folks happen to be here now and so maybe I'll use them. My folks were here a couple yearss ago too and really enjoyed the Lumpini Night Bazarre (I've harped on its greatness before) or is it Bizarre... Though it starts to get more pricey, they also really enjoyed dinner at Baiyoke 2 with all the random wandering entertainers up there, and the buffet and museum and views. That's kind of original. They liked Sizzlers (the salad bar) and all the Sushi and a few other restaurants. So, as you can see, we like food. And there are so many good restaurants. All cheaper than home. They have revelled in the Japanese, and indulged in the German, savored the Chinese, etc... Why not a small dinner party, however small; perhaps your parents would also enjoy meeting an acquaintance or good friend you have here, from another country than your own or even the same country, whose conversation is excellent. Atl's right about the movies here--it is so incredibly cheap compared to back home. Also, besides the Elvis/Tom Jones guy in Music City or whatever it's called, an after dinner stroll through the Patpong night market isn't so bad, though they don't need to buy anything, they do get that little harmless glimpse of Thailand's infamous nightlife. There is a good Chinese restaurant on Silom between Patpong and Thaniya, deep in the back behind the Subway sandwiches there. Delicious and affordable. Any of the shopping malls can be exciting to first time comers. Maybe they'd like to go up to the Zoo on the 7th floor of Pata Pinklao department store. That's another curiosity not found everywhere. It also includes a petting/feeding section which is pleasant with sheep and goats and pony.

Hmmm, looks like the "lady shoot banana" pussy show in Patpong is off the fun map? Well, another thing might be to take 'em down to the Chao Praya river and see what you might find for entertainment in the 5 Star hotels by the water. Nice to sip coffee outdoors while watching boats motor along the river. One thing I've enjoyed would be to take them on a dinner cruise on the Wan Fah, beats the heck out of the larger cattle boats doing dinner cruises: http://www.orientalescape.com/service/sightseeing/bangkok/night_tour/dinnercruise/wanfah.html The food is good and the traditional Thai musicians and dancers are something your parents would probably enjoy. A g/f of my partner in crime also enjoyed the Oriental Hotel Spa (across the river from the hotel on the west side). This might be a good place to park your mom while you and your dad hit the soapies... - Balls

Some excellent ideas here. Thanks a lot. as for ( quoting from above : )...."It also includes a petting/feeding section which is pleasant with sheep and goats and pony. " I myself, am fond of some petting and feeding, on a regular basis, but without the bloody sheep, goats, ponies and any other farm animal. There are quite a few places for this in and around Bangkok, or so I am told.
