as has been mentioned here, as well as other sites, the subtle price "racism" as it's been called, is alive and well at the siam ocean world.

you'll notice the english price for an adult admission is 850b (a quite large sum in my opinion for any museum/aquarium/etc...) but if you convert the thai adult price it comes out to 450b. still a goodly amount, but almost a full 50% difference!
i believe I may show up and just present 450b. I wonder what they'll do...?
i mentioned above the word "racism" as that's what others have called it. i'm not so sure...i think it's a case of "outside-ism". anyone unable to read the language will get gouged. i've been in the middle of idaho at a burger king and was asked if I was a resident. I was kind of confused, as I thought the question was whether I was a legal united states resident, but it appears it was town residency. if I had said no, I would have had a higher "tax" added to my bill....a case of "outside-ism".

Every summer, Disneyland offers a special admission price for Southern California residents, only, with pretty good discounts on various ticket and park configurations (sometimes they can amount to roughly 50% off a non-resident, out of state price).
This whole concept of better prices for your own 'mates and peeps is nothing new, and every country, county, or even municipalities engage in it.
I really only regularly see hefty complaints about it in Thailand (not that you're complaining heftily, as you're merely pointing out the price differences), and with a whining vehemence.
For the record, I have been at Siam Ocean World several times, and always only paid in the 500 Baht range, per person. This was having my current girl handle the transaction, or me walking up and handing them two 500 Baht bills for two persons' admission. Never had an issue. Of course, YMMV.
I think it comes down to being able to read Thai, or not -- and just like everywhere in life, additional benefits befall you if you are privy to additional information. If you're not, you pay more - be aware of it, and accept it.

many countries have special / different prices for residents
nothing special
i think the thing here is that thais cant afford what it costs to visit so its a reduction
you might as well start complaining about student discounts too, or temple charges
at the end of the day u r talking about a $10 difference for entry to a huge brand new and well stocked aquarium
$20 is pretty reasonable if you compare it to london aquarium, sydney aquarium, florida seaworld, etc
even dubai aquarium is more

It doesn't always work out that way.
In the past, entering Thai national parks with the Thai relatives & what seemed like half the village crammed into the back of the pick up truck, the soldiers at the barrier carried out a head count of those in the truck & start to add up the Bahts. They saw me in the front & charged me at the farang rate, even tho' I know the rate for Thais & even tho' they know I know the rate for the Thais.
No amount of friendly cajoling by my Thai family & friends in the truck could persuade the soldiers to charge me entry at the lower, Thai rate.
I must have been wearing too much gold that day.

The amount for foreigners is indeed 850 bajt. But it is for a bonus package. This is not mentioned for Thai people.
So I guess you get more....
