1st, Merry Chrisymas or Happy holidays 2 all.
Ok Check this out and tell me what you think, dont hold back on the truth.
So I met a new girl in cowboy, (new 2 me not 2 other members who go there often) (Griffin dont pick on me becuse I think you now her < he knows all the girls in cowboy  she wasnt the reason I walked in that bar,i went 4 a drink after going 2 baccara, I sat down had a drink and a "hostess" sat with me, no problem so far, Then I see a very SEXY looking girl also a hostess jump on stage and start dancing. Ok she got my eye and I forgot about the hostess that was sitting with me.
I still remember the rules so I paid 4 the 2 drinks and I leave.
I go back the next night because I want 2 meet the dancer I saw, I go in SHE (the dancer/hostess) comes 2 me 10 seconds after I walk in.. Would you like a drink? Can I sit with you? I said sure and she spent the next 5 1/2 hrs talking 2 me!! she told the mama keep her tips because she didnt want 2 go and bring in customers that night. I was very suprised at that, next at about 12:30 I ask you want me pay bar so we can just sit and drink? ( I only did it because the mama wanted her to go out and drag in guys every 15 minutes) She tells me dont waste your money I dont get any of the money we can just sit and have drinks together.i said ok?? (So you know ive been in bangkok for 4 years thats a first)
So we have drinks then at 1:30 I was Mau (drunk) and I said im gonna go home now and gave her a 500 baht tip she asks me 2 take her mobile number then says please call me now so I have your number ok? I do and I leave.
Ok BROTHERS this is where the problem comes in,,,,.
2 days later I go back,she is sitting with a guy and I just sit down and order a drink, the mama is her friend and tells me just wait a moment and over she comes, (She left the other guy cold) she came over sat down and asked the regular stuff ie: how r u? can I sit with you ?
I told her 2 get a drink and we started where we left off.
i felt bad 4 the other guy so I said im going 2 go meet some friends and ill see you again soon. Ok the next day she calls me on my mobile and says are you finished your work I say yes and she says can I come see you (it was about 5:30) I dont want 2 go to work tonight? I asked her where she was and she said she was on my soi!! ( far from where she works,i told her when I was dringking with her) I told her where I stay and she could not find it (very good sign) So she came and met me and we have stayed together since then . and she stopped working in the bar 3 days after I met her and I didnt have 2 pay the long term bar fine!!!!!!!
Now the Real problem, its been 5 weeks and now some guy who I never met wants to GET ME 4 taking his girl!!!

I feel guilty reading this at the end of a post, before I even start replying. Damn, we must have a bad reputation some of us. 
If the conversation was in English as you describe it, I guess the guy is a foreigner, in which case, I would ignore the guy. It is for the girl to sort him out. Anyway, just in case do not go often to her old place of work. At least let time pass.
If the guy is Thai,..... make sure the girl tell you who he really is, name and details in general. Just so that you can better gauge the screwing that you may get or how much would it cost to scare the guy off if psuh come to shove.
In any case, do the obvious: avoid going alone or only with (or small groups for that purpose) with her to the places where he may find you. Make sure she doesnt give him any info on you.
I have had guys shouting at me in Thai over the phone... but I never worried as I never got to hear their threads as I always hung up fast. There is one Thai guy that after one year... well, we still exchange ugly looks with each other, but we have many common friends and we both play civilized guys -but he really hates my guts.

Professional opinion based of my previous experience (which I admit is getting a bit dated) threats over the phone like that are unsettling but seldom lead to serious direct contact. By serious I mean that six of the people that know you get to carry you. Course if I'm wrong there is no chance you can sue.
Early 90's they fished a guy out of the Yarra river with his hands tied to an electric motor by his new GF's psycho ex BF. The GF had said nothing to the new BF although she knew what the ex was capable of. Reason? That way the new BF took the "heat" for the ending of the relationship. She f-cked them both alright.
How much has your new lovely told you? I'm startin to wonder why she threw herself at you?

Smegma's advice is right on. Ditto SO5.
Probably just bravado, but if I were going to be in BKK awhile, and continue the relationship, I would treat it as a possible real threat, as there are crazies all over the place - who can tell - and it doesn't cost much to play safe.
Next thing I would do is have the GF call him in your presence and have her tell him in no uncertain terms that it's over. This accomplishes two things of course, it not only tells him to f*ck off, straight up from her, but also lets you know that she's not straddling the fence. Record the call, and any others from him.
If that doesn't get the message to him clearly, then for my money I would not be comfortable unless I went one step further to neutralize the jerk. After getting some details on him from the GF, I would hire thaiprivateeye to get a good rundown. Then I would surprise him with a call and let him know, by mentioning specifics of his activities, that he is being seriously watched ("by friendly Thai police" you can say), and that he will have a much happier New Year if he just gets on with his life and stays the hell away from you both. No threats- be cool.
And if that still doesn't get the message to him then I would spend a few more baht on friendly police and let them carry the messsage directly to him that they have his number, and his threats on record.
That should be about as good as you need, short of putting a horse head on his pillow.
Sounds dramatic but been there, done that, in other circumstances.

I was starting to get a little unsure about my actions,the girl has been straight with me thus far so im trying not 2 just say oh its 2 much trouble to be with her. she did change the sim a week before I met her but the falang went to the bar 3 weeks ago and got it from 1 off her friends.i asked her today is he sponsoring you or was he? she told me that they stayed together 10 months ago for 3 months,,he stayed with her in her little place 2,ooo bt a month room because he had no money and lost his job.then she left him and told him he could stay there and she left. he went 2 her bar a few times but she didnt want to talkwith him.but a month ago he came again and asked her to try again she said no and leads us to here.
I will say this is a first 4 me with the ex-boyfriend thing
in bkk. the reason I dont want to give up on her is because she did quit the bar on her own and is not tyring to empty my pockets like shes in a race... (at least not yet)
OH I almost forgot she told me lastnight when she saw me typing on the computer that he used to chat on a bangkok site and was always telling her about the girls in the bars and how much others pay and so on. I didnt let her see what or where I was typing.

Tread carefully bro...
I once had an angry father call in the middle of the night. The girl got up with a serious look on her face as I heard his deep, stern voice speaking. I didn't make a peep as instructed by the TG. Apparently, her parents (the mom got on the phone later) had the suspicion that she was working the bars and were calling to ask why she wasn't in her room where she was supposed to be.
