The movie was poorly made and the acting was non-existent. Em looked nothing like a poor Isan girl.
However, if you view the story as an allegory between the complex relationship between Isan girls and farang horn-dogs, it is a compeling story. I too has some tear at the end. I saw the movie as an allegory rather than an attempt to show a real story.
Just my 2 satang's worth.
I would like to see a sequel with Em's sister getting invovled with Sissy-boy (I think he was French). I would cast Nong Natt in the role. She would make a perfect poor Isan village girl.
If you want to be realistic, forget about that and you can cast Noknoy. I hear she needs money.
