OK, it is time for personal stories.
When I got a divorce, my wife signed off that I had custody of the daughter. Immediately after the divorce, the ex wanted to have visitation rights, which I felt she was entitled to at the time. She picked up the daughter for a weekend and returned her on time. The next time she picked her up, she was one day late bringing her home. After that it got a little worse until the last time when she was refusing to bring her home at all.
I called my lawyer in Pattaya who told me that since I had legal custody and she was refusing to return the daughter, she could be charged with kidnapping. I passed this little gem of information to her and she brought the daughter back from BKK post haste. It never happened again.
It has now been over five years since she has even tried to see her daughter. Sad indeed.
Edit: I believe the difference between my situation and the one outlined by TPEII is that I have legal custody. His example apparantly does not.

Spot on EPC.
The kicker is he wants to leave Thailand after the divorce as he is sick of it all...
He just wants to give his child a MUCH better education abroad,and therefore a better start in life.
He is even willing to pay for his wife to visit them anytime outside of Thailand.
Thereine lies his problem. His wife wants sole custody and as he is technically unemployed (preparing for his move out of Thailand) he is royally screwed...
He tried to do it right and it has backfired on him. He may be given visitation rights when he comes to vist Thailand (if he can find his child) but for sure he will be forbidden (by a court order) from taking the child out of LOS... The Land of Sorrow...
As so rightly Yurune says it works both ways.
But its a shame the kids are allways caught in the middle.
It amazes me, most places you need a license for a dog. But they let any bitch have kids... Ok that's a bit harsh, but you get my drift..

Can you kidnap the wife and leave the kids behind?
All those nappies, crying, etc, all gets in the way of why you married her in the first place. Pick them up again after they've turned 18 so they can then start supporting you.
