Glad I'm not the only person feeling that way after reading AP's trash.
I'm with ThaidUp regarding the desirability of the alleged HiSo Thai upper social circles. Not really the kind of people I necessarily desire to mingle, unless there's a way to get their money.
Seriously, AP, if that's how you interpret social dynamism, and what you aspire to, then you have some seriously skewed priorities - which everyone seems to pretty much agree with.
Now, in all fairness, I have seen my share of farang trash that invariably seems to hang out with girls that I would consider less than attractive - simply because they were ugly, not because of their social standing, and it always amazes me to no end, what that selection process is based on.
Also, again in all fairness, there are quite a few girls that will dress and act very obviously 'Issan', which can be very charming at times, but may seem very out of place in some social settings.

A friend of mine is from Issan (Surin) a former BG on cowboy...and super, super cool..we still keep in touch occasionaly via email, she married a brit and I met him...and both have met my mom, dad and mrs atl..
My point is.... it's a persons substance that makes them, not where they are from....

I guess that depends on what you are willing to settle for? Personally I find the skin tone of the typical Issan lass ten times more attractive than the pasty white that the average Thai elite seems to think is attractive. On the flip side I know a few farangs in Bangkok that have Thai-Chinese wives – they did not settle for anything less than what they wanted. So you can take what you are handed or go get what you want - up to you.
As for the nightclub and being pigeonholed in the corner: I guess maybe you just don’t have enough pull to get the good seats. I know a few farang and a board member or two that do the club circuit. They spend so much time and baht in these joints they can practically pick where they want to sit – even if other customer are sitting there. They don’t get the good seats because of their nationality or complexion. They get the good seats because they are good customers (spend lots of baht on a regular bases).

I agree to a point...being when I lived in bkk I loved the tan babies but when I got married and we lived in LA mrs atl would totally shade herself at the beach...I told her "I like you with a tan" but she wouldnt go for it..
all the farang chicks desire that 
but when we are in Thailand now I find myself looking at the white skinned cuties at the malls and on the BTS...
you want what you dont have I guess...

I have worked in many countries around the world...
And there is one thing I have come to know..
Regardless of what country, religion, culture, etc etc.. there are ars*holes every where..
But I get partucularly annoyed when the ars*holes are from mine and unfortunatly there are quite a few.
I have an adage that I treat everyone with respect until they show me they don't deserve it

There are some truths in this thread.
Thais certainly do seem to regard light skin as desirable. The over-exposed photography used on billboards and in magazines and the comparative paleness of their soap and movie stars seems proof of that.
The people of Isan do tend to be darker and therefore are regarded as less attractive by their fellow Thais - whose puzzlement remains as to why we farangs mostly don't see the same "obvious" detraction.
The biggest truth though is that anyone who has "oily master" alongside his use name has been around this board long enough to know that a post like this and phrases like "isaan trash" would, for obvious reasons, provoke negative reactions exactly as it has.
Just my two cents worth…Enjoy.
