Do any of you out there use an Expat Health Insurance company for your health insurance? Any experiences with this. Pros and Cons.

I do a lot of traveling around the world, so some world coverage plan would probably be best for me. I am open to anyones advice/experience.

I PMed you but I will post it here also.

This is my agent, they have several programs to choose from:

If you have a plan at home already you can also try getting an annual travel insurance policy, I use AIA.

Pros/Cons depend on where you are a resident. If you are a US resident it is better to have a US health insurance program as Expat Insurance will either exclude the US or have a very high premium. In this case a travel insurance policy is the cheapest option and can provide very good coverage including evacuation/repatriation options. My policy with AIA includes kidnapping coverage.

If you live out of the US and do not have coverage then Expat insurance is the best. However if you already have coverage (eg. you live in Canada), then the travel insurance option is the best...

I think I will be going for the Global Insurance offered by some US companies. The plan also cover the US, and is pretty cheap for a year. $1500 for a 39 yr old guy. Nice to see that the women have to pay $1000 more.

For local health insurances, check out:

http://www.bupa.co.th

They have special short term (<6months) health insurances for foreign visitors.

you've got to be a real expat instead of just a sex tourist before you can fulfill the prerequisites to apply

So they disapproved your application? Or did you keep quiet about your field reports?

You could try searching the health insurance section on the Ajarn site (a Thai teachers forum). This might get you started:

For very cheap accident insurance, you can sign up with one of the bank programs. Kasikorn is like 200baht/yr, SCB 1300baht/yr with 30 - 50K baht coverage per incident. I don't know every detail of the coverage, but incident reports so far indicate that it's good for what it is. Though I assume it only works at non-private hospitals.
