It is a problem wherever you get have people crowded together in a small space. The secret is to stay aware of your surroundings and take only what you need with you.
An example of this was a few years back in Boston. I was in the Financial District during rush hour waiting for the commuter rail when someone brushed up against my back. I shifted my computer bag to cover my rear and turned slightly to see someone quickly moving away. I could feel that I still had my wallet so I boarded the train back to my hotel.
Well I got to my hotel and when I was changing I found that the back of my pants were slit cleanly as with a scalpel. What saved me from injury and a possible lost wallet was that the pants were from Bernini so they were lined in silk.
I did not lose my wallet that day but the pants could not be repaired and I never found a pair to match my suit coat in color and texture.... a $1500 suit down the drain...

I think I met the same tailor in Pattaya, there cant be that many 
but actually I feel for CS here, Bernini aint cheap and tailors in LOS dont make that shit...
CS..I would have told the guy to sew it the best he could and just always wear the jacket...

Things are a little different with Americans Mr. Frog.
Americans of the middle-class will buy one expensive suit (called the 'Marrying and Burying Suit) for 'special occasions' and several off the rack suits for day-to-day requirements. Just happened to be that I was returning from one of those 'special occasions' when the whack cut my suit.
Never did buy another. I moved to SE Asia instead and figure that since I will be cremated anyway I might as well go naked when I die  ...
