Are most taxis willing to take you to pattaya for 1200-1500 baht? do they know where to go? any tips would be appreciated

The price rangeis correct. Better to book a taxi from one of those travel places though it might cost you acouple of hundred Bhats more. But if you search the older threads in Bkk/Pattaya section on Taxis you may find couple of reliable and cheap Taxi services operated individually/by travels. I used one of them in my previous trips and found them to be very reliable.

Actually, I have good success with getting a taxi from the street to go to Pattaya. Some don't want to go (they are about to get off work, etc.). I suggest asking if they will go to Pattaya and telling them "900 baht, ok?" They will likely counter 1000-1300 and you pay tolls (about 100 baht).
Take a good look at the taxi before you propose to go, make sure it is a nice, newer taxi. And many Bangkok taxi drivers do not know Pattaya very well, so you should know where you want to go, you'll likely have booked a hotel, yu can just call the hotel and your phone and they can tell the driver where to go.

Scruffy: On your return, there are many taxi stands on 2nd Rd and there are lots of taxis deadheading it back to BKK empty. I've got them down to 600 baht & tolls before, and I don't haggle all that well. wj

Doc: I'm sorry Scruffy had such a short trip, especially where he's headed. Maybe I can save some other members a few baht. The taxi stand is more like a cab pimp siting in a little box on the sidewalk. He calls the cabs. The one I use is at 2nd Rd and 7 or 8 across from Coffee World. The most I've paid is 800 baht. I think there's cab pimps anyplace that has a concentration of hotels. My friends were staying at Dynasty (around 13 and 2nd) and they said that there was a guy down around there that they've used before. Of course gas has gone up and if it's early, the Bangkok guys haven't got there yet. The best method is to talk to the pimp a few hours before checkout and have him give you a call when somebody's down with your price. wj

I See.. so not 'taxi stands' but these agents which you'll find tens of them along 2nd road and elsewhere in Pattaya. These are not exactly a secret.
It's pretty hard to get 800 baht now all the way to Bangkok. To the airport yes, but not to the city.
We'll charter a van with the two of us.. a little more expensive but much more comfortable....

Down at the end of Soi 11, off of Sukhumvit Rd., and across from The Bed and that Korean Restaurant is a car service with very good rates.
It is located in one of those two older building separated by a parking lot and perpendicular to Soi 11.
