Not only is this old news, but Thailand is not unique about doing this -- you can find dual pricing, favoring locals, EVERYWHERE in the world -- in Souther California, local CA residents during the summer get significant discounts for most theme parks -- if you're from out of town, you pay full price. Additionally, if your monthly income is less than $500, then *maybe* you'd have an argument, but if that were the case, you shouldn't be traveling to Thailand. As it stands, it's an overdone, boring, and idiotically stupid subject that is regularly being regurgitated by the boring and idiotically stupid. Close the thread.

so how do you feel about two-tier pricing on Song Taaw (Baht Bus) rides in Pattaya ? it's actually the same prices for Thais now that the cost of fuel has gotten so high

Quite a few barber shops also have two prices on their window. The last one I used in Pratunam had 60 baht on his window. After the job he wanted to charge me 100 baht. I pointed at his price at the window... he replied that that was for Thai people because 'farang' have more difficult hair...555! Three twenties in his hand.... bye bye.

that's because the residents pay local tax while the out of towners don't in LOS the expats pay more tax than the Thais, so what gives ?

Doc, I would have done the same, well done. We all know that us farangs get scammed/treated differently in LOS, just a part of life over here. We are in a more financial positition than the locals (not referring to you LY, lol) so they target us. Equality does not exist in Thailand, you are either Thai or one of them, and I dont have a problem with that, we know the rules and boundaries..... just play the game. I am not wealthy by any means, probably wealthier than 90% of Thais. So if I see double price's, I can say to myself, f...k it, bite the bullet and proceed or walk away. Thai people do not have huge amounts of cash like us, so they should pay less. Whoops, just got reminded, it is their country.

The Theme Parks in SoCal give discounts based on your postal zip code, not your place of birth or nationality. And the way I've seen the do it is by giving a yearly pass at a bit over the price of one visit to the park.

...and that local paid sales tax benefits the theme parks exactly how? The state cuts the theme parks a check every month for it?

I think there's more Thais paying more tax, then the few expats who pay some more tax.

Which is just another way of doing the same thing - they ascertain your residency, i.e. they make sure wether you are 'SoCal' or not. No different from Thais.

Nope, the yearly pass is an option - Universal Studios will sell you a yearly pass along with the same price as a single admission, when they run the special, for example. Disneyland gives you a single admission at the SoCal discount (the yearly pass costs significantly more). etc, etc...

per capita The rich Thais should be putting more in, but what I meant was, those that are paying those 20b fees to get into the same parks are paying a lot less of their income to the govt. & I wonder why they don't charge the rich Thais who arrive in Beamers & Mercs more If working in the middle East I wouldn't be paying taxes at all & what pray tell benefits do I get from the f***in' LOS govt. for paying their f***in' taxes ? besides getting a f***in' work permit & being "allowed" to work here so in the end I am really no different than the rich Thai in his Merc, BUT I am NOT THAI so there in is why I get f***ed over at the park
