About the Jetski, The young Seaman was a bit of a fool, it's only common sence that you check the Jet ski with the operator to see if there is any damage before you take it out. As they say visitors always leave there brain at the airport even he did come over sea ( does that make sence)
That women at the full moon party, silly girl, it shows the rules at the port if you are guilty carrying drugs but still want to have a puff. only 10,000 baht all she has, no family or friends can't bail her out, how the hell she afford the holliday then, sounds like to me that they are thinking the Thais have a soft spot and might bring the bail down.
This is one thing I would never do in Thailand is take drugs, I was in the wife's village one time and had a drink with loads of young Thai men, talking about football and then they started to ask if I like marijuana and one of them grows it, they wanted to know if I want some marijuana and if I wanted a spliff, I just said no it's just not worth the hassle.

Yes this was on the Thai news last night along with this report from the UK

British tourists are more likely to be killed in Thailand than any other destination, according to new figures released today.

Motorbike accidents are the main reason why 269 Britons died there last year, according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

The figures mean that Thailand has the highest rate of deaths in proportion to the number of British tourists of any country worldwide. In the year to March, an estimated 860,000 British tourists visited Thailand.

This figure also makes Thailand the country where, proportionately, British tourists are most likely to end up in hospital, according to the organisation’s British Behaviour Abroad report, released today.

The majority of 324 reported hospitalisations in Thailand were due to motorbike accidents, says the FCO, and a high proportion are fatal.

The figures for the report are based on incidents reported to British consulates abroad, so actual numbers could be higher.

On the dangers of visiting Thailand, the organisation says: “Many of the hospitalisations in Thailand are the result of motorbike accidents – particularly in the southern islands.

“Thailand has one of the world’s highest road traffic accident rates, almost all of which involve motorbikes.”

The Thai law that states safety helmets must be worn is widely ignored according to the FCO, which contributes to the high number of deaths each year. On average 38 people a day die in motorcycle accidents in Thailand.

The organisation also warns: “You should never hand over your passport as a guarantee against returning a motor scooter or cycle. Unscrupulous owners have been known to hold on to passports against claimed damage to the motor scooter or cycle.”

Further to that, some vehicles are not road worthy. The FCO says that many of the motorcycles and scooters that are available for hire in beach resorts are unregistered and cannot legally be driven on a public road. This could invalidate any travel insurance policy should the driver wish to make a claim.

On the subject of travel insurance, the report found that financial pressures are causing many British holidaymakers to forgo travel insurance in a bid to save money.

Foreign Office Minister, Chris Bryant, said: “Getting comprehensive travel insurance means that whilst an accident may disrupt your holiday, it won’t bankrupt you in extortionate medical or repatriation bills.”

Other trouble hotspots revealed by the report include Spain, where 2,032 Britons were arrested last year. This is higher than any other country, although as a proportion of visitor numbers, the highest number of arrests was in the UAE followed by Thailand.

The majority of arrests are drug-related, with one in seven relating to illegal substances. This is particularly so in Thailand – were a quarter of arrests were due to drugs. The UAE also has a low tolerance of drugs – according to the FCO, many Britons arrested in the UAE are transit passengers, who fall foul of the country’s strict drug laws, which prohibit some prescription drugs that are legal in the UK.

Among the notable cases is that of Tracy Wilkinson, 45, from West Sussex, who was arrested at Dubai airport in 2005 for possession of codeine, which she had been taking for chronic back pain.

Arrests are also due to "bad behaviour". The UAE has a low tolerance of anti-Islamic behaviour and behaviour that is regarded as disrespectful towards UAE officials.

The FCO advises Britons heading to unfamiliar countries to familiarise themselves with local laws and customs before heading abroad.

Like I have always maintained, riding or driving a motor bike/taxi is much more risky than unprotected sex. 38 people dying every day.

and f*** UAE, never been there and never will go beside you cannot take seriously men wear PJ's to work.

So this Jet Ski operator is arrested now:

Haha, for me it all looks like big movie, expecially when the cavalry (i.e. the Marine / Milit. policeman) comes finally in - proud and tough - to save the good guys and set limits to the evil ones.

a good warning to all that Travel to Los, dont touch drugs !
Sound advice but this is still one negative side of Thailand.
Too much pressure from uncle sam, they would be better to follow the example of south america to stop this corruption. Most idiots who get caught are just part of a sting, all mafia togeather and that includes the BIB.
As for motorcycles I never use them either.

This is becoming a good discussion.

One good thing that Tuksin did was clean up the Drug problem.

Which is no good for any of us having a holiday Many desperate druggies scaming

I have to shake my head when I see drunk farlangs on the back of a motor bike taxis in BKK without a helment.

Get a Taxi there cheap and have air con.

I think if your in the US military and are on R&R in BKK and get caught riding a motor bike it's an instant Court Martial.

The reason so many British get in the shit, one there really drunk and think they can party like there's no tomorrow, and they the British are higher % of passport holders

Americans the % is very low that have a passport, I would of thought more Aussies get into trouble as many Aussies Drink Hard and Asia is in our back yard.

When alone with me in the room, the BG told me that the Thai couple had asked her for heroin;......... She told those Thais that she didn't have any ( heroin).

The episode leads me to believe that heroin / hard drug, use is fairly common among p4p providers.

We all know how crooked the cops in LOS are; supposing they invade a guy’s hotel room when he’s with a BG who has drugs in her hand bag, will the guy end up at the Bangkok Hilton even if he didn't know that the girl was a drugee?

Or, that couple was a pair of undercover agents or police informers. You scare me, QQ, with that scenario of police invading a guy's room and lassoing him along with the girl for the drugs in her bag. That could make a script for a film. Anyway, as has been noted in several threads, the economic downturn, and police eagerness to score some limelight, is rapidly taking away some of the thrill of picking up strangers for the night.

Video footage posted on YouTube showing a jet-ski rental operator threatening a British tourist with a gun would tarnish Thailand's reputation, whether the incident was real or fake, Phuket Governor Wichai Praisa-ngob said yesterday.

Wichai said he had written to embassies of several countries whose tourists complained about jet-ski operators in Phuket, to try to explain the problem.

Police have arrested a man seen with a gun in the video clip, but it is not yet clear if the incident was real or a stunt for a reality show in a foreign country.

Wichai said provincial authorities had received several complaints about jet-ski operators extorting money from foreign tourists from China, Japan and Australia, as well as some Thais, even before the YouTube footage.

He said they were trying to solve the problem but there was no clear evidence until the video emerged. Officials worked with police to arrest the person shown in the footage and he was now in custody at Kathu police station. He was reported to have confessed.

"The man's action, whether it's real or set-up for a show, is not right, especially if it was a set-up because it can be considered an intention to severely damage Phuket and Thai tourism," the governor said.

Officials called a meeting of jet-ski operators in Phuket and related agencies last week to set rules for jet-ski renting services. They plan to register and record the work history of jet-ski operators.

They will limit the number to jet-skis to 219 and try to get operators to have insurance to prevent problems in the event of rented jet-skis getting damaged.

Some 40 jet-ski operators and insurance companies were invited to try to set conditions for insurance next week, Wichai said, noting that this was a preferred solution.

"I'm not against them making a decent living out of this sport, but they must do it right and get into the insurance system. They can charge the insurance fee in the renting fee, say the usual Bt1,500 per 30 minutes could rise to Bt1,600."

Officials would also look into reports that some operators use Burmese workers as jet-ski boys.

Phuket had sent a letter explaining the problem to various embassies, initially focusing on countries whose citizens had filed complaints about jet-ski operators in Phuket such as the UK, Australia, China and Japan, Wichai said.

They would check with people who wrote complaints to see if the arrested man was the same person who extorted money from them. Officials would discuss the situation with legal experts about what they could do.

He hoped that efforts by the province and local agencies would restore tourists' confidence.

"This problem had been here a long time but the lack of evidence deterred authorities from doing anything much about it until now. This is the first time the allegation materialised," he said adding that they would seek the maximum penalty for offences - to warn others not to try such acts.

There were similar problems with car and motorbike rental businesses and some people's illegal acts were hurting honest business operators, he said

It can hardly be called a "scam" when you use a beach chair and umbrella and then pay for the service. That's just simple business, if you don't like the price then f*** off back to your pool with all the other fat Ruskies.

The people selling stuff on the beach are out there trying to earn a living, not to harrass people. If you don't want their stuff just smile and say "No, thank you" and they go away. On Lamai beach on Koh Samui last week I had a beach chair with an umbrella and got a pedicure and foot massage, cold beer brought to me, I got a nice fried chicken and salad lunch, then I had an ice-cream and later on some fresh fruit cut up for me. All without ever getting off my arse. Try getting that next to your poxy pool full of kids' piss.

I always see farangs in Thailand walking around with bandaged knees, elbows and lower legs because they hire scooters and have no idea how to ride them or they try to show off and be heroes and they think they can ride fast on them. Ride slowly and you'll never have a problem.
