Right on BK. I agree with 110%. You could be wearing $200 versace shirt like me but if your skin color is not what they want, no matter what you wearing.. you will get a slap.. so just wear what you feel comfortable. In the day time I usually like to wear jeans, good walking shoes and white or light color cotton shirts. And in the evening you can dress depend on where you going to hang out that night....

Note that BK is talking about MPs, which addresses the original question.
Some folks are beginning to generalize his statement into "It doesn't matter what you wear, it's all about race, day-to-day."
In fact, the more presentable you are, the better your choices will be anywhere, but especially in Thailand.
Thais are very image conscious, and although your wallet may do your talking, all things being equal, the better girls will choose the better dressed guys every time.

On a second thought, I guess you're probably right.
Even with a working girl, it might be advantageous to dress well. She will be proud and will certainly gain face among her friends and colleagues if she's seen together with a welldressed farang. (There are so few...)
So maybe decent clothes can be a "competitive advantage" or even a key to receive better services? Any thoughts/experiences?

Not always.. Twice I think I was the best looking dresser in a joint but girls decided to go with some fat dude with hawiian shirt and kmart shorts. And I don't consider myself ugly or bad dresser.

I think that dressing nice does help to a certain degree, but the smell of money is the best way to get a female!! ha ha ha!!
Seriously though, if you got skillz, then you can dress any way you want and still close the deal.

If the girl is being sponsored or she is just looking for that well dressed falang or that 'hip guy' falang if you will. or the trophy boyfriend to be seen with and to make her friends jealous etc....then yes threads and style win hands down over money. I agree and I am trying to exploit and ride this loophole.
. but really though I do like to wear a lot of suits. mixin up shirt and tie combinations and stuff just for fun, I like looking good, wearing hip tailored suits and and good shoes just for the novelty of looking good because I can and do look good ya dig 5 5 . f_ck it why not.
But at the same time you can catch me out and about in warm up pantst or khakis with a tshirt and nikes on .. down dirty street level riding the red 2.5bht bus and still I be lookin good consistenly macking consisenly ... I guess the moral of it all is that i'm just always lookin good. 555
Fritz you said there is 'a colour for every workday' I am wondering if you or anyone knows what they are? Does this pretain to suits or could it be acceptable to wear for example, a blue shirt and tie with a black or even a grey suit on a 'blue day' or would you also have to include the blue suit and perhaps even a white shirt with blue tie.
I would really like to be hip enough to dress in side the confines of 'colour code days' Up my proflie with the business set you know.
