I saw it at the Emporium (great seats) on Saturday night at the 7.50 pm session, you could still get seats to this only a couple of hours before?? Not a great sign for a Blockbuster released only the day before. BTW, a stunning movie!

Soi Magpie. it opened at 10:30am at my local cinema and I went to the Noon showing. 6 people in a cinema of 400 people. i know it was early, but in the following days it was a film which was still quiet at all the 9 showings per day. but Thailand? is this a film which appeals to the Thai's? the book is very famous in the West and finally there has been the definative film series. but does the average Thai know about this and has had the patience to wait for 2 years to see the end of the story. not wanting to spoil things for people not having it yet and won't say too much,but..... Andy Serkis deserves every award going for his work in bringing Gollum to life, outstanding. the creation of Shelob was one I was looking forward to and I was not disappointed. a great few minutes on the screen. like Jackson,i hate spiders and was horrified at the sight of her but at the same time enthralled by the scene. i look forward to King Kong and maybe The Hobbit.

Hm. Disappointing. I saw LOTR3 at the Emporium yesterday, Sunday, at 18:40 (I think). I bought the ticket one hour before the show: cinema 80% full. Very, very disappointed. I thought that LOTR1 was extraordinary - and I use the word sparingly, believe me. (Incidently, I saw it in BKK two years ago - thought it might be nice to close the series where I started.) LOTR2 scored less. Maybe LOTR1 was so stunning that LOTR2 was less of a surprise. Anyway, LOTR3: I was so looking forward to it - the review in last week's Sunday Times (London) was extravagant, and the reviewer knew it; he insisted, and said that it was that good. I was sorely disillusioned. The visual effects were par for the course, certainly, but were no greater than those of LOTR1. The storyline was a little convoluted; for someone like me who never finished the book, the thread was difficult to follow. The action was spectacular, yes, again, but the battlescene, for example, was no better than the one in LOTR2. So why all the plaudits for 3? I'll agree that 1 deserved absolutely everything that was thrown at it, but 2 and 3 do not deserve more. This is the disappointment: the critics all said - as far as I could gather - that 3 was even better than 1 and 2. It is not so: if you are not a fan of LOTRTheBook and are anticipating something unseen, then be prepared to be disappointed.

i've read the book more than once and knew the story. but there were obvious details I had forgotten over the years. i do not think you need to read the books to see all 3 films, but you do need to see parts 1 & 2 to follow the end of the story. i was lucky knowing the story and watching the first 2 films on DVD in the days leading up to seeing part 3. each film was different in the respect of focusing on different characters and telling their story. part 3 was obviously more about Aragorn and his role in life, but also showed the relationship between Frodo and Sam grow in a very sensative way. i thought the storyline was easy to follow even if it did jump from character to character, but this happens in the book. but when you look at it there are only 2 stories which matter. all the other things which happen are just there to fill it out. but without them the book would not have worked. the mulpile endings were a disappointment to me as some things were left in the air and other things were left out. but a book which is so complicated at times will always be hard to film and Jackson and his team have worked miracles.

the scene involving Shelob was drawn out in a good way. i was waiting and waiting for her appearance and on the edge of my seat. Frodo was getting further into her lair and no sign of her. the suspense was getting to me and then suddenly there she was. the few minutes involving her were some of the best bits in the film and I sat there hands in mouth, even though I knew how things ended.
