I attended an Isaan wedding earlier in the year, the girl was about 23, beautiful, never been married, no kid. Thai man marrying her. The dowry was 20K baht.

You seem like a nice guy. But you have so many strikes again this "marriage" that you need to have a semi-miracle to make it work. Take a BG out of her home country and transplant them into farangland is just like pushing a huge rock up the hill. Lot of hard work and you may still slip.......Wish you the best though. Next time ( in case you fail), if you still want to take a Thai lovelie back home, try the "good girl" category with some college education. The chances of that working is much, much better.

I wasn't talking about my marriage in the post.I was talking about a guy I work with who married an Isan BG. The guy I was talking about above had what I thought was a trainwreck when he married the Isan woman. We are all sort of on a "deathwatch" regarding that one but we hope they can avoid failing.
My wife speaks and writes 3 languages and has business skills (outside of the bar.  ).
Of course I am taking what steps I can to insure a good home for her. I bought a large place for us here in the Bay Area just outside of San Jose California. The other Thais I know are mostly professionals or business people.
My wife is from Kamphaeng Phet and her family is much different than my friend had to endure above. My wife's family works and doesn't ask me for money, ever. There are the usual farang buying sprees when first arriving in the village but I don't know how to get past that.
I gave dowery or $5000 USD but was told repeatedly that I didn't need to do anything. They asked for nothing from me and even explained that as I was an American that people wouldn't really expect me to pay one.
I was very happy with my wedding and the events around it. Wish you all the best.
