I was by no means excluding the Thais from my “worst of the worst” vision – it indeed does include the whole of humanity. Everybody on this boards knows how I feel about most Thais. I DO however have a problem with people (foreign, Thai, Uzbeks, whatever) entering a bar/club in a sleeveless t-shirt, shorts and slippers and treating every girl as a hooker. Even if she is one. It is a fact that 90% of the human population has no style, no manners and no respect for anything except their own instincts. Especially the ones you find at the aforementioned places.
Thank God for some kind of dress code in the places I frequent.
I will push this even further. People who deny this, belong to the scoundrels I am fulminating against.

When looking at the 'farang' influence on Thailand and Thai culture, I think that people are looking in the wrong place if they are considering the effects of tourists or expats. Sure, they make some superficial impact but if 'farang' were judged solely on the average 'tourist' or 'expat' we would surely be considered 'scum' by the local population.
Much more important is the on-going impact of western culture embodied in the press, film, TV and other media. At least 50% of the average Thais 'learning' comes from the TV while perhaps less than 1% comes from direct contact with farang.
The average Thai knows about David Beckham, Jennifer Anniston's dating habits and Britney Spear's breast implants. Thais are perfectly happy to ignore the flotsam that floats past them on the streets and dream the American dream.

Actually, because it has still a relative minority Aussie presence that Pattaya is still an ok place. Wait until you tuggers take over the place as you did in Bali & Angeles City and then watch things going seriously naff and downmarket. Best thing the John Howard government implemented was to increase international airport taxes; it had the benevolent side effect of keeping some of the riff-raff at home.
Pattaya is a playground for cheap sexual thrills but things are changing, notice the increase of package tour tourists in town? - mainly Chinese & Russians. Also Pattaya is expanding fast with real estate being sought over and land prices increasing fast. It would be interesting to see what effect would have the new Suvarnabhumi international airport, in a few years time.
