Yeah, I'm with Singlolo on that -- how were they allowed to leave? Going to the Olympics is a non-issue, seeing as how Thaksin no longer represents Thailand - and if the court/gv't were to allow them to attend, why did they not send some kind of watchdog with them?
Most of all, I am surprised at the total (as usual) incompetence of the media -- which should have sent a couple of dedicated shadows after Thaksin, to catch him bailing on film.
I don't blame Thaksin for running - I do blame everyone around him who allowed it to happen. How are the Thai people supposed to develop trust in their judicial system, with these kind of examples?

Thaksin says he is no longer prime minister and tells him to try another number.
Half an hour later, Thaksin’s telephone rings once more. “Can I speak to the prime minister please?”
“Look, I’ve told you once I’m not prime minister any longer now p**s off and leave me alone.”
Ten minutes later he calls again. “Is that the prime minister?”
Thaksin says, “I’ve told you repeatedly that I am NOT prime minister any longer, why are you doing this to me?”
“I just enjoy hearing it,” says the caller.

the simple reason he was allowed to leave is that everyhting is a compramise in Thailand... It was all arranged by the powers that be a long time ago. You are found guilty, you will go to China, then to England and not come back.
I was told a long time ago that the Thais bend like a balde of grass in the wind. That is why they move with the ebb and flow of things so easily.
The interesting thing I have found in this ordeal is that so many politicians are thaksin allies, yet they could not stop this from happening. I do not buy 'the judicial system is what got him'... I believe it was more the old powers that be that finally showed just how strong they are....

Well, just like Thaksin I'm pulling a runner as well. Time to leave the country, so to speak, and I'm imposing a one month voluntary freeze on myself. Just like there seems to be one set of rules for those in power like Thaksin there also appears to be one set of rules for most on this board and another set for the "special" iCrowd. Peace BK and thanks for a GREAT 5 years or so. BL, see you on the other side. Who's next?
