Whilst in soi cowboy the other night I realised someone had just attempted to lift my wallet. I was sat outside Tilac bar, a semi attractive lady walked past me, she stood out a mile because she had very long thick, curly blond hair (perhaps a wig) and a very bright orange t-shirt on (long length so it came down past her ass) and underneath that she had some shorts on. I noticed her because as I said, she stood out, she went behind me and sat down, made no effort to engage me or even look at me. I was alone having a cigarrete while my mates were inside, the next thing I know I feel a tug at the back of my trousers, where my wallet is, because i'd had a few beers it took a second or so to register, then there was another tug at which point I snapped around and this woman jumped up, said sorry and was gone up the soi before I had any chance to properly react. (which later I think was a good thing) Luckily the button on my rear pocket was done up which had prevented the snatch (by the snatch !?!). As I watched her disappear into the soi another girl with short denim shorts and a black crop top, short dark hair joined her and they were off. (is it possible these ARE Katoeys?) It was very obvious what had happened but what followed later in the night was the worrying part. It was several hours later and I was sat outside another bar when I spotted her again, weaving up the soi, entering the outside areas, sitting down behind people and then after a few minutes up and away. So she was clearly 'working' the soi pickpocketing, but what was so worrying ? Most of the bars she entered she seemed to be known, acknowledged by the Thai guys on the door or by the Thai girls milling out the front, it was obvious what was going on and it was obvious the staff at the bars didn't give 2 shits about protecting their patrons. I don't think this thread needs to go into all of the "don't carry your credit cards", "never take your wallet", "only take cash you need" "keep your belongings in a bum bag", etc.etc. Just be aware of this if sat outside in Soi Cowboy, and I wouldn't even bother to challenge her, not with the way she seemed to be operating with the knowledge of the bars and nobody was intervening, I think you might find everyone turning on you rather than the pickpocket, especially as a guy grabbing a woman in that soi. Be careful. EDIT IN: I reread my post and wanted to clarify something a little better.....I did not see her acknoweldged or anything at Tilac bar, it was later when observing her at other bars I noticed this behaviour, I don't recall the bar names, but I was sat outside Jungle Jims watching the world go by when I spotted her the second time.

Duh! Something that dresses like a girl, pretends to be a girl, is WAY more done up than a girl, and operates in pairs (or, a pack). Yeah, check all those and you have yourself the usual Katoey scum... As Jingjo said, always keep your wallet in your front pocket -- but your points about a lot of the bar, bouncers, and other natives just turning a blind eye to this kind of crap is worth worrying... Maybe take some pictures of them next time, though by your description, it's pretty obvious they will stand out.

Had an experience the other night... Walking from SC to Grottino by way of next to BTS steps. Usually there are katoeys waiting to pickpocket you but this night it was pretty open, then out of nowhere a 7 yo boy selling roses pops up and shoves them in my face to buy. As I keep walking and mildly ignoring him, he is hugging onto me and begging me to buy the flowers, since I am walking and not looking down, he slips his hand into my pocket, luckily, I feel it and bust the little sucker. He plays innocent and stops in his tracks and I keep walking, no harm-no foul but be aware bros! Pretty much anyone is in close range where they can touch you, (whether its an arm around your shoulder, or a hand on your elbow) your radar should go off, there's a reason they are so close...

I think Meaty's post is clear. Yeah, we all know the rules about where you keep your money and what you take with you. The point is have fun but always pay attention. I think that most of us who have experienced the attempted or successful rip off know that you have to keep your guard up as well as your Johnson. I have had a few attempted ripoffs. Maybe I drink too much or walk where I should not. In most cases it was an LB but in a very notable case a BG. Pay attention and limit your losses and realize that it all goes with the territory. With good there is bad...yada yada.
