If they pull that stunt at the airport again they will probably get gassed off as they bloody well should. The problem in thailand is the army and police all are politically oriented even the army has high people on both sides of the fence, which is probably why it was allowed last time. If you support all of these stunts its easier to look the other way than actually do the job your paid for. The police and army are on both sides and are divded in ranks Everyone watching who will make the first move. One of the drawbacks of democracy if your not on the right side or the stronger side your pretty much f***ed as has happened always in history.

Tourism is gone for at least 1/2 year or more. enmass cancelations for hotels bookings and tours with huge loss. This is not the time to visit Thailand. Stay home or go elsewhere. Very unstable situation and a civil war will happen very soon now. Sad this went the way of violence but one should expect in Thai politics when you upset one side too much things will break out of control. Ap.-

Only in Thailand... oh well, the same could happen in other 3rd world countries in Africa and Latin America.... but most hope Thailand as a bit more developed. Guess they are wrong. When has another such combo meeting of country leaders (G7, G20, APEC, EU, etc.) been prevented from happening because there were people protesting outside? ================================= However, a group of foreign diplomats' wives nonchalantly finished their sushi lunch. "We are used to these demonstrations here," said Janet Rodriguez, wife of the Filipino ambassador to Thailand, while observing that the invasion of the summit venue "is not a sign of strength" for the host nation. Luggage was strewn all over the lobby of the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, as delegates checked out en masse. "We have to pull out now," said the aide of one Southeast Asian leader, barking orders from a hand-held radio as his 50-member delegation prepared to travel to the nearby airbase. "Thailand should not have allowed this to happen. How could they have allowed the protesters to go this far? They should have blocked them before they reached here," he said.

You have to wonder about the country some of these people have in mind, when "leaders" speak of victory in the Pattaya war: Natthawut Saikua, a leader of the red-shirted movement, declared victory for the Pattaya battle and told the protesters to leave the town and head back to Bangkok. "The war in Pattaya was over now. Since we have gained victory, all red-shirted people in Pattaya will return to join the rally in front of the Government Hous," Natthawut said.

The government's failure to protect the Asian summit in PTY is a colossal and astounding blunder that will be its death knell I predict. There is little to stop the emboldened Red Shirts now. This situation will only get worse, and intervention from above will once again be required. But this government is finished.

Honestly, I agree - placing the ASEAN summit in Hua Hin again (or some other far off destination) would have made more sense. PATTAYA???? Dumb!
