What I've experienced In Pattaya, is that the prices (30 baht for indefinite time) is quite reasonable.
Also the prices for drinks brought by the chair operator were quite reasonable (like 10-15 baht for a bottle of soda water).
Don52, I do understand it's a hassle to fend these vendors off (No, thank you, Another time. I am full) but you got to show some appreciation for these people walking up and down the beach all day in the burning sun to make a living.
And yes, some of the stuff is a little more expensive than in the 7-11 across the road. But then again you get service at your chair.
And as with everything, as the money's coming out of your pocket, you're fully in control.

Maybe 'scam' was a little harsh, never said I was rude to the vendors, I choose to do without the sales pressure, my pool side chair is included at my hotel.

Ha ha! Definitely fat Ruskies on the beach but I think more stay poolside so they can walk through the hotel lobby and make the Thai receptionists feel sick.
If you talk about sales pressure then what about those f***ing Indian tailor touts every 10 metres along any street you care to walk down? Now, they are annoying. My wife asked me why only Indians run tailor shops and why they are allowed to work in Thailand and I replied, "I don't know, darling." Anyone know?
But getting back to that YouTube video - the whole thing looked staged to me. Why didn't the altercation about the jetski take place on the beach instead of after when it was taken to JJ's property? Seemed like a nice, secluded setting for a staged encounter instead of doing it on the beach where they would have been shut down. Also interesting that the Marine Cop knew exactly where to go to rescue his stupid mate.
The situation on Koh Phangan was also a bit hard to believe. Every stupid drunk slag on a beach must obviously be that way because she has been slipped Rohypnol, not because she drank a skinful of booze. Was there any evidence of the drug being put in? They made it sound like it was the Thai booze sellers who put it in - they would go to that effort and expense just to hope to make a pommy scrubber pass out on the beach? Yeah, right. The bird who got banged up apparently "never drank" but somehow managed to get drunk right under her boyfriend's nose. The whole thing smells just like her twat after her time in the clink - very fishy.

Of course, the whole show is a setup.
The girl on KP was asked if she carried the drugs herself. Then she replied: 'I looked behind me and then I had it in my hand and then I was arrested'.
Then we see a scene where the Police Assistant talks with her boyfriend after he has lost her (she was apparently arrested by the police).
And later the boyfriend says they were his drugs.
How could he have given her the drugs while they had lost each other?
A setup.. also the ski operator part was unbelievable.
First, the boss accuses JJ to be a crook. Yet later he 'settles' the deal for 30,000 baht. After learning that the marine could pay 35,000 baht, he goes along with JJ and let the guy pay 35,000 baht.
Not very clever and not believable...
@QQ: Why would you assume that Soi 33 have another attitude than freelancer, beer bar girls or go go girls.
Remember, most of them are of the same kind, only they were a dress while the other ones are less glamorous dressed.
They have the same Thai boyfriends, same police contacts. I would even say they are used to 'bigger' amounts of money so more risk.

Whisper,it is a mistake to assume that an ethnic Indian trying to get you inside his(uncle`s) tailor shop has just arrived from Mumbai.
He is far more likely to have been born in Thailand,and his parents as well.Indians have been prominent in tailoring,and dominant in the wholesale and retail textile trade in Thailand for generations.
Even more than Chinese Thais they maintain their customs,religion and dress,and unlike Chinese Thais they are far less likely to integrate into mainstream Thai society.I suspect that this is due to Thais being less ready to accept them because,physically,they are different in appearance which naturally sets them apart,and this initial lack of acceptance reinforces the Indian community`s natural tendency to maintain its customs,and to stick together for mutual support(again not unlike Chinese Thais but more so).

Police admit extortion of tourists hard to stop
A Thai video production company involved in the filming of alleged extortion of foreigners by a Phuket jet ski operator is to be prosecuted for sending the recordings abroad for broadcasting without permission.
Wanasiri Morakul, director of the Thailand Film Office which comes under the Tourism and Sports Ministry, yesterday said police had traced the tapes to a company called Black Sheep Productions.
She said the managers of the company, which had produced the Big Trouble In Thailand series for Bravo All News station in England, admitted to holding the copyright for the recordings.
Ms Wanasiri said normal videos made by Thais do not require prior approval from the ministry's Office of Tourism Development.
But the people responsible for the Big Trouble In Thailand series, which has been a big hit on YouTube, had violated Article 34 of the motion picture law by not having the contents examined by a Tourism and Sports Ministry film committee before they were broadcast abroad.
The company's managers could face 12 months in jail and/or a fine of up to a million baht.
Seksan Nakawong, director-general of the Office of Tourism Development, said the film-makers also violated Article 23 of the same law for making a film tarnishing the reputation of Thailand.
The clips feature Phuket jet ski operator Vinai Naiman, also known as "JJ", demanding compensation from a British client, a marine on rest and recreation leave.
In the footage of the British marine, Mr Vinai was seen going to a storeroom and returning with a gun which he dangled by his side.
Sasisupa Sungvaribud, president of the Film Production Services Association, said the recordings took the form of a reality show and the events depicted were obviously staged and scripts written for the film.
Tourist Police chief Adis Ngamjitsuksri has conceded the extortion of tourists was a problem which the police alone could not stamp out.
He said the extortion gangs, including those in tourist provinces, worked under highly influential people.

Parts of it do look a bit staged to me; like too much coincidence that the cameras happen to be in two different places at the same time in regards to the same event (full moon party) - and also the girl charged with marihuana possession. Still, it is fun to watch.
