It's racism, pure and simple. I've mentioned in other threads on this topic about experiences of friends and colleagues at the Thai as well as the Chinese U.S. embassies.
My TGF is Isaan, a big mark against her, relative to the BKK Thai's who work in the embassy, or in greater BKK, for that matter. People make all sorts of excuses for the nonsense going on in that embassy, but it doesn't hold up to the light of day.

Yes its very sad especially as the people who want to abuse immigration visas will do so anyway they can wait and do not care.
In the schengen lands where I am I see daily guys going to see there indonesian, Thai etc girlfriends to go back after 3 mths, after waiting three mths they can come back again.
Concerning the fiance visa or wife visa, they can delay it but when you have the paperwork in order it cannot be refused whatever they tell you.
This is basic human right of family's to be togeather,
according to the united nations, which most civilised countries have signed.
Holland has had a problem with certain minority groeps bringing in partners only from the mother country causing problems with integration.
They were told they cannot stop it it would be disriminating anyway they signed something before so it is international law, the only thing they can do is put up the salary you need and make it more diffficult in general to put people off. This does not stop criminals bringing in girls for brothels because the profits are too big.
I brought my thai girl here 6 yrs ago for long time and I am not from here, before that she came as tourist.
Its a shame that is made difficult to the states as this is a good chance to get to know her in another environment and carry on the holiday romance so to speak.
It means you must be more critical i.e which fiance you choose first time, as I can assume when you bring many fiance in short space of time but do not marry this could get noticed.
I would advise anyone not sure how to make the best application to use one of the translation places on wireless road,I paid 10,000 6 yrs ago it was money well spent,there was also a child involved my own.
they seem to know what they are doing and each specialise in different countries ie english, american, in holland they were more interested that I could proove I had a relationship,so all evidence over long period like money sent and telephone bill helped to get it aprroved (this was for wife visa) tourist is still a formality.
One thing I must say I always admired in the USA is they came to your home afterwards to check if you really were married - but I must admit that was after seing gerard doriaeu the french actor (misspelt its late sorry ) in the movie green card.
Here as long as I could show I had some income, no criminal record and a place to live that was it that really.shocked me after waiting 6 mths that noone came to check.
One other thing comes to mind is aupair or nannys how do they get visa 's but I suppose thais are descriminated.Basically my opinion is that these girls would be helped
more checking also for tourist visa more carefully that it is real /...
It is cruel for someone who has a farang willing to pay to give them a chance to see the world and have this rejected. Mafia organisations bringing in girls to work as whores know what to do to get visas and will wait.
They of course are not emotianaly involved.
Good luck and if you really care for her then go for the fiance or wife visa, the 10,000 bt included getting married in bkk but that was 6 yrs ago.
Lastly my wife is from Bangkok.
Also I am in some cases only guessing this situation to come to the states based on my experience in europe, its interesting to exchange information and maybe it helps a brother along the way so please do not flame me please tell me the actuall situation.

Tourist visa procedures:
Fee = 4,000 Baht (non-refundable)
get a "tourist visa form" from the USA Embassy on wireless road or via the internet,
Fill in the application form completely; purpose for visiting, contact address in the USA, Enclose letter of employment, Bank account or other evidences showing the applicant's obligation in Thailand.
After submitting the application form, the applicant is requested to have an interview in the next 2-3 weeks later. The officer will ask the questions such as where do you work?, What do you do (for a living) ? Where will you stay in the USA? Please tell them the truth :>).
My case: The officer asked me the information about you such as: Where do you work? Where did I meet you?, How long have I know you? I told him the truth via the internet and he visited me last year. Good for 10 years.

Well said and spot on! I I've seen it first hand and experienced it first hand. I spent three days at the US Embassy, not one Isan got a tourist visa, there were many!
If your interviewing consular is Thai an Isan will not get the tourist visa!

NOMADIC SOUL, it sounds like you got the white male conular in his late 30's or early 40's, speaks very good Thai. You are very lucky he is very fair and considerate. There is a Thai women consular with a German last name who is very racist, her husband also works in the Embassy. If the interviewer was Thai she would not have gotten the visa.
We couldn't even get a 30 day visa.
There is a guy on the Thai Falang board that is married to a TG living in US, the Embassy would not issue a tourist visa to the Thai mother-in law to help with the new born child for a few months. And his inlaw's own their home in Thailand and have no desire leaving LOS. His in laws have never seen the baby as a result.

Reading LS's and Cal's post I'm saddened and angry. The reply from the consular is pure bullshit. This would cause me to pick up the sword so to speak and start writing. I would start with: http://uscis.gov/graphics/index.htm and on to the state dept.
Yeah, I know it's easy to talk but sometimes one has to fight for what's right especially when it directly impacts them. Best Wishes!

Yes, I know. But if you are going to marry the TG, everytime family wants to visit, you have to go through the Embassy (same people). So you don't burn bridges you have to cross. Just a sad fact of life!

Thank you everyone for their input and tips.
I did not realise it would be so frustrating to bring your GF for a vacation to the U.S.
I agree this is racist and the embassy should look further at their policies so they can come up with a better solution.
How fun would it be to take your girl friend to Vegas,Disneyland,Monterey or whatever. It would be a vacation that you both would never forget.
It just goes to show that a few knuckleheads ruin it for the rest of us who have good intentions.
