Nokna,

As I said they were predictions and just to answers to your questions:
When will be a good time to visit? When the state of emergency is lifted & Phuket gets back to some normality.
can you give us a timeframe when all bodies will be accounted for? Probably some bodies will never be accounted for.
should we all stay away for 5-6 Years in case a body might be discovered? No, mother nature has her own way of dealing with them, they will just decay.
i don't know where you are getting you info from from but surely RESIDENTS know what is going on? and they are posting here telling what is going on, Sky-News eyewitness reports as I said these are predictions.
but are all the folks many Miles away are more informative? I am 6500Miles away in Birmingham UK
and I would like see the evidence that many the migratory workers are leaving? Read ”LastSurvivor’s” report, with no reliable income anyone who has no ties to Phuket and the affected area will just go home or move on to greener pastures.

but a question for you Guys.
if you were there now, would you be bribing the Airlines to get you out because you are so scared?
I certainly would have tried to be of some assistance, probably the best assistance to the people of Phuket is to get out of there for a few weeks, we along with other countries have consular officials on the ground assisting, particularly those who have lost all there money, passports & travel documents.
Thail government is also assisting tourists by providing free flights out to Bangkok and free hotel rooms in Bangkok until onward travel can be arranged.

As I write the news gets worse, Now news of 800 bodies found in the wreckage of the Sofital Hotel on Koh Lak, they thought to be mainly French tourists.
Before this Thailand had predicted 2000 dead, probably 700 of them tourists.

BB

WOW this thread and discussion is going weird...

A huge disaster just happened, something really exceptional, with thousand of victims... We are just and only 2 days after the disaster, and some stupid people are considering going to Phuket for holidays....

It is obvious that the global instructure heavily suffered and people are just starting to realize.

WHAT'S THE HELL DO YOU WANT TO DO THERE ON NEW YEAR EVE ?

Just give them time to clean, time to breath again. I believe it will take at least 1 month...

There are so many other nice destinations in LOS, why this stupid discussion ?

Well said Bustyboy. I cant believe that people are thinking of their own holidays over the thais grief. Many people are saying they wish to visit to help the local thai economy. My gut feeling is that many of these people have more interest in getting thei thai girl shag fix rather than genuinely wanting to help the recovery process and are thinking with their dicks and not with their heads.

In the immediate term the thais need to grieve and not have idiot foreigners enjoying themselves and laughing and drinking around them. With so many other places to visit in thailand or south east asia Im amazed that people are being so narrow minded. In a short period of time the area will recover but for the next couple of weeks let the thais/business owners have a chance to stand back up on their feet.

Note that in the UK there are idiots phoning the missing persons emergency line to ask if they should still travel to thailand or not and becasue of this they are clogging up the lines. There is another number at the FCO to ask for this advice..,.the stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.

'People who need to donate money or live goods can contact Provisional Coordinating Center as per above hotline number. In Bangkok, please donate at the Department of Diaster Prevention and Mitigation, 3/12 U-Thong Nok Road, Dusit, Bangkok 10300. Tel 0-2241-7495-6 or hotline : 1784'

another address to send money.

easy to say that people must stay away or delay their visit for a few weeks.
but many people (like me) save up for a year just to have a 2 week break.
i would not be able to change my dates,i would already have the tickets etc.

Basil.
i'm only a few hours from you in Portsmouth, but I prefer to listen to residents of Phuket telling of what is going on.
they know more than you,me and the media.
the media go for the jugular and tell all the horror stories and then f*** off quickly.
all they want is to show us the gory stuff, but I notice nothing was shown of what happened 12 hours later when bars and restaurants were open.
too much of a bad story for them.

i prefer to listen to people like Whisper and my friends living there for the latest updates.
after all they know what is going on.

Yesterdays's quote from an ex-pat living in Phuket ="the whole region is destroyed!"

There are hundreds of dead bodies under the rubble at Khao Lak Beach - mostly tourist.

There must now be a high risk of disease.

Sure some bars are working in Bangla just one or two boats need to be moved then they are open for sell once more.
The goverment is closing down now for 3 days and there is going to no grand party in Bangkok as plannes. There is still TODAY around 1000 Bodies on the beach just outside Phuket and they are not finding dead in the trees. Today divers took the 50 dead or so people stuck in the the beach department store were they got stuck during the wave. Yes of course you can do down to phuket and party all night if you like BUT there is other places to go to and all around you is people that need to cry for there loves once.
I lost a freind today I just found out Lenone she had an animal shelter in Phuket R.I.P
