I do have two tatoos, one was made in France and is a Red indian Dreamcatcher on one of my harms. Second one was made in Wat Bang Phra by a Buddhist monk.
I dont regret to have them and did the second one for ritual reasons.
Yes, receiving a Thai tatoo made the "old way" does hurt, but its not so bad compared to a visit to the dentist for example 
i ll get one more piece of "Magic Armor" on my next trip (4 more weeks and counting)

A nice bit of ink it is too. I think the traditional Thai tattooing style sounds a bit painful for me though, I'll stick to a standard western tattoo gun for my next one.

I still have my KGB tatoo on my chest.
I saw an interesting tatoo today at WalMart.
The lady was white trailer trash. She was about 40 going on 60
-graying, stringy, blond hair
-leathery skin
-missing alot of teeth
-smudged lipstick
-low get shirt with nipples poking throw. On her neckline it said,"I love men."
I think I will get two tatoos on each buttocks. One will say WalMart and the other will say Big C.

I considered getting a tattoo following the tsunami. As I was involved and lucky to escape I figured it would be good to have a form of identification in case something similar ever happened again (not that I think a tsunami will ever visit Phuket's shores in my lifetime).
I remember that most of the dead farangs were easily identified by their tattoos and the ones who weren't, well, some of them are still here.
I know a Thai lady who is on the game and she has a scorpion tattooed above her left breast, clearly visible. It looks shithouse and I asked her why she chose a scorpion - her reply: "what is scorpion?"

Perhaps a small tattoo in the style of a bar code that has your name, national insurance/social security number, blood group, date of birth etc., might be useful.
Dunno where to put it though, I would barely get my initials on my willy let alone, "Welcome to Jamaica etc..."

2 Interesting stories about tattoos...
I was in India and my friend took me to get henna/mendhi tattoos made on the back and palms of my hands (I think its only for women but I was a foreigner so I guess I got a pass). Intricate little designs all over my hands, sort of freaky looking but I liked them. I got back to BKK and was in Pantip plaza to buy a pricy piece of hardware, when I handed the girl my credit card, she saw my hands and instantly froze. She then asked to see my passport (left it at hotel) and ID Card (also at hotel). She then called the # on the card to verify it wasnt stolen and sent the cashier to a bank with the card to see if it was a fake. I couldn't believe it so I told them to forget it, went upstairs to another place and bought the same exact thing with no problems. But there it was, discriminated against because of my "tattoos" A good lesson that removed any desire of getting a permanent one. Definitley a weird feeling...
One of my college drinking buddy's dad was in "The Big One" (WWII). He got there just as the war was ending so he got to enjoy the big party. One night he and his buddy ran into a British soldier that told them he would "drink you Yanks under the table", so it was on. They got him blind drunk, took his passed out body to a tattoo parlor, had an American flag tattooed on his chest and left him there. They never saw him again but can you imagine this guy when he woke up? This was before the days of laser removal and all the advancement.

20 years ago in the amsterdam RLA I saw a bloke with a tee-shirt on the back it said f*** OFF in big letters
When he took it off (it was august ) he had f*** OFF
tattoed on his back, this is the honest to god truth my mate took pictures I think he still has them

Here is a population of Russian peoples and when hear the russian spoken my eyes slide automatically over their hands looking for tattooed "rings". If I see any, I check for the patterns in them.
In Russia, career criminals have their resumé in those.
Tattoos in their bodies tell the rest of their career.
There might be something like that in those things in Your hands, afterall You had no idea what the stood for.
