Quote: from vox on 1:35 pm on Sep. 21, 2009 If you've ever done video production you know how hard it is--nay, impossible--to get things to be as clean as organized as all the shots are in any "reality" show, including this one. I didn't say they got any "facts" wrong...certainly, events could have (and do) happened similar to those they portray. My only point is that what they videotaped was scripted, rehearsed, and carefully set up with multiple cameras and actors all standing exactly where the director said they should stand. This is what happens in all "reality shows" and most documentary films that you watch.
Sorry, I still disagree. The interviews (of which there were many) were obviously staged, since they occurred between the subjects and the producers. That is what an interview is--staged. A few scenes many have been re-enacted, but the vast majority looked real to me. They are obviously not showing all the film shot (it is highly edited), and it is not all in real-time, but that does not make it fake. I don't think they used any actors either. You have yet to supply any specifics of which scenes you are talking about.

Introduction (at 00:18) claims that "last year 288 British tourists were killed" in Thailand. The figure seems high for tourists from just the UK. In 2007 British tourists represented 5.94% of the total (source: http://www.tourism.go.th/2009/en/statistic/tourism.php ). Assuming that % remains the same for 2008 and pro-rating the kill rate, it would make for 4,848 tourists killed last year. That is an average of more than 13 tourists killed every day in Thailand. I find that number a bit hard to believe.... unless the Brits are the great majority of those that get killed, but that is also hard to believe.

Recreationals are fine if you know what your doing and until legalised will have to come from someone. All users do so because of the lacking they got when young, thats what kills not drugs. I think motorbike manufacturers and parachute makers, gun makers etc should be put to death + assorted world leaders and religions all guilty as sin blood on their hands, will it happen no. That being said though if you know the penalty, dont make it right though. What about all the families wrenched apart through drink, wifes beaten, kids ignored. So if we follow those lines all bars owners should be put to death because they are dealers right. What No No no ????? So he was selling drugs to expats in pattaya hardly kids then or those that have led a sheltered life. How many people actually died from his drugs, now let me guess none. Kids and dummies should be kept away from drugs all others should be given some respect. The laws the law though agree to that but in this case barbaric, disproportional and just a plain bully. He was probably taken out by the competition, many more mugs waiting to fill his shoes the amount of drugs falangs use in pattaya. Nothing more than hypocrysy. Hardly Mr big if he had all the drugs in his house now really. The Thai police will do everything to stop foreigners coming in and selling drugs, of course they will let only thais sell them then make money busting all the falangs who buy the drugs at the same time. No good falang buy from falang corrupt police no make any money. Its a shame for anyone who get into trouble with anything including drugs. But if we start banning things the list might never end. Some are worse than others like smack though and btw Alcohol is a drug Many of my wifes family are in monkey house for years for something that warrants a slap on the wrist. She says government dont want people to do, and hab too muk have to die. Thats like shooting a dog for shitting on the pavement. For a poor thai its one of the only ways to make money so worth the risk, which means the goventment wil never get what they want this way. For a falang to get mixed up in this they must be and loco but this supply is unlimited

Maybe I am wrong, but I think anyone coming on here defending this guy or saying that he is no different to an alcohol or cigarette vendor, are perhaps partial to the odd line, or smoke themselves. Yes, recreational drugs can be ok if you know how to control yourself, but more often than not, once taken, people struggle to get off them. Nearly every house break, robbery, assault in the UK is drug related. My original post wasn't really meant to debate the seriousness of drug dealing, but more to express my disgust at the way this prick conducted himself on camera, with his permanant smile, contempt of the Thai law and apparant belief that he had in fact, done nothing wrong. For ****s sake, it is Thailand, everyone knows the consequences - himself and his family gave the impression that they believed themselves to be above the Thai law and that they should have special treatment passed to them. That was really my point.

Yes guilty as charged your honour but in all the drugs I smoked and sniffed I never robbed, or assaulted anyone. Neither have any of the people I have mixed with and thats spanning a lifetime. I believe what your refering to are heroin users, I suppose if the free smack program gets expanded in the uk that will get less, lets hope so. I agree the guy is a prick and smug. He would be better of keeping his mouth shut. What I disagree with is saying all people using drugs have a problem which simply is not true.Thats not saying drugs are sweets either its not as simple as that. I see it like this the cops want to make an example so justice thai style is we found some drugs your guilty. The game is he should grovel not to get the death penalty, they may even be after names as I find it hard to believe he is the kingpin. They stopped killing falang a while ago but I suppose they are desperate so return to the formula. Bit unfair that though killing thai and not falang. One thing I dont understand is after killing people again and again dont they realise acting like this will never keep drugs away from kids. Education the 'truth ' for once and other fundimental changes are needed, our society' s needs to grow up and be honest with itself. Like I already said with the poverty in thailand the drug trade is one way to make a quick score as is selling pussy. neither of these things will ever change while the rich which includes the judge here have a disproportional amount of wealth against most other folks in Los. Also now every dickhead from all over the world can get to Thailand there will be idiots selling them drugs from their home country. Just for the record I dont touch drugs in los other than alcohol and dick hardener and that suits me fine

Maybe they are including all those so-called suicides. Also, I doubt the the deaths are proportional across all nationalities, but I agree that 288 sounds a bit high. Some of those are probably accidental deaths (in addition to suicide).
