It confuses me too. I've seen Americans wander into LB bars, get a beer and then 'suddenly' realise what kind of bar it is and hurriedly pay the bill and leave--with or without taking their beer with them. They never seem to be able to hang around long enough to enjoy the novelty and their beer.
I've also got an American friend in Bangkok who hassled me to take him to an LB bar. I eventually relented and he had a great time. He had ST with an LB, loved it, repeated the experience two or three times over a couple of weeks and then went back to his otherwise completely heterosexual lifestyle. But then he's lived in Bangkok for some time, so perhaps he's a little more open to these things.
And your mate sounds like he's from north of the river

I have not seen tony around at my star wars street cafe recently. last time I saw him about 3 weeks ago and he had big arguments with some ladies, he has a younger stud in tow now. some girls told me that he was beaten up recently.
but have not heard of a stabbing so far.
