Definitely - aside from randomly tipping the maids (especially when they bear with me after I messed up the sheets - again  , I also make it a point to always leave my remaining small change (usually amounting to roughly 200-500 Baht) in the ashtray upon departing the hotel.
I always make sure there's a nice note there, specifying it's for the maids, or even pointing it out to them - oddly enough, I always get nice service, and big smiles - but most of all, it makes me happy to be able to show appreciation for their hard work.

I always ensure I tip the maids on my arrival.. I tip for the service I want not what I may get..
Tip up front and I am always taken care of.
although last trip I stayed in a rented apartment and had to do my own cleaning (no maid) so I kept all the tips..
Got to be honest.. some of my regular young ladies did help me out now and again.

I tip based on how the experience was compared to the norm. If the experience is below what I normally get I tip little and if it is above then I adjust my tip up for good service.
It is always a good idea to have a rough idea about how much to tip BEFORE you enter a place.
It is a real pain when you are going for round two in a soapy and have to reply to a txt message because your friend in the next room doesn't know how much to leave as a tip

When I was earning 11,000 baht a month I had to rely on mates earning expat salaries to buy me a beer and friendly girls to give me their body for a reasonable fee. Now that I am on the expat package I can afford to repay the beers, shout the low income earners and f*** all the lovelies and give them a tip for good service. I think a tip encourages good service, just like a bonus at work if we hit targets.
