DG,the dumping of the $US is not because it is not perceived as a safe haven, but because of very low US interest and bond rates, and because the US stimulus measures largely involve the printing of large amounts of dollars which tends to devalue the currency. Although the Global Financial Crisis originated in the US,it resulted in the worldwide purchase of $US because the dollar was perceived as a safe haven. Should there be a worldwide double dip recession it is likely the $US will rise, regardless of low interest rates, because the $US is still the de facto world currency, and regarded as a safe haven. But in the absence of a worldwide recession the $US is likely to continue its slow decline in value, but this will make its manufacturing base more competitive, and assist in the recovery of the US economy.

This is true - Alot of courses once offered the chance on successful completion a chance to apply for a work visa - then resident visa. In My area Chinese students work in massage parlors and go to school the rest of the time- Its a good deal if you want a piece of asian arse for Hundred Bucks- The Numbers who stay are high also- Racism in Australia has played a role in declining numbers - but changes to tighten Immigration as the previous writer points out correctly is the main reason. Your affluent Indian Parents wont in most cases pay $24,000 a year to study Hospitality and Management if the hope of work visas and residency evaporates. ::

With all due respect lets exam some points you raise- Firstly a bollywood movie Portraying Australians as a sex crazed racist country - was widely panned by indian media - (i placed the item in CW forum where Australians sometimes go) India press like The India express is like going to a tabloid for content. The simple reality is Pauline Hanson That you refer to is a very long gone politican who now resides in the UK (not Australia) and she never had much influence or made up more than a few percent of voters. Her policies certainly do not reflect Australia's position. You say you have lived and worked in Australia yet quote "chink" and Wog...terms of reference long since gone in mainstream society. In Australia as anyone can see by watching the Australia channel (usually 32) in Thailand there is a strong appeal to asians to study down under. The shift to China is deliberate on Australia's Part. We sell the f***ers alot of Iron ore. If your sugesting they get a hard time here - its simply not that true. Isolated incidents in Melbourne by racists dont reflect society elsewhere here. Infact your more likely to be murdered in India if your Indian than Australia (see crime stats) The driving force Overwhelmingly for the drop in Numbers is "LAWS" passed to no longer allow indian students in alot of cases to apply for resident visas on Completion of courses. I already outlined the wealthier indians who send children here to study simply dont have reason to anymore. Rudd is also not an an apologest for and/or defender of racism in Australia- He speaks Fluent Chinese and is very well recieved there as our representative abroad. He also apologized to Aborigines when he was prime minister. Australia like most of Thailands Hookers are simply saying "we not do India"....if its a case of jumping over to our lucky country shores with expectations of a quick lay and long time stay. ::

Actually the wealthy Indians who used to go to OZ now find Singapore a much better value. Why... There is a large 'native' Indian community here that provide the social connections these folks desire and need... It is closer to the home country (3-5 hours by air)... The return on investment for property and other investments are much higher whilst the taxes are much lower... It is easier to obtain visas and residency papers (though that is changing)... There are global branches for almost every major University from the US, EU, and OZ for their children to study in... Finally to be honest Singapore is one of the most cultural tolerant societies in the World, I mean where else can you be locked up (without trial because of the Internal Security Act) for any action that will 'disturb social harmony'. When I recently left a major IT project in the US to return to my Singapore abode many of the Indians on the project (many with US 'Green Cards') asked me to help them find work in Singapore so they could migrate there. In many ways these folks are getting tired of the 'unspoken' racism that they face in the EU, US, and OZ and are looking for 'greener fields' that are closer to home...

Quote: from quack quack on 11:05 pm on Oct. 14, 2010 Having lived & worked in Australia, am acquainted with the "wog" attributes that most Australians assign to Indians & to Southern Europeans. Also let us not forget the "chink" culture that Australians associate with Chinese & Japanese.
Quack Quack, having also lived and worked in Australia I can categorically say you are full of shit You seem to have some bizarre resentment towards Australia -were you on the receiving end at sometime during your stay? Your on going grudge suggests so I would relay what 2 trusted managing directors have told me about Indian employees behaviour, having hired around a dozen Indians over a 20 year period but I'm sure it is something your delicate bigoted ears don't want to hear The last guy f***ed off halfway during a project because he was c*** stuck from his parents having 'arranged' a girl for him. Was rather amusing Quack Quack - MATE. I was trying to ring him on his rostered 'on-call' weekend but to no avail, only to find out later he was on a flight to Delhi to see his pussy

QQ,You seem to have aroused "the Australia can do no wrong chorus". Well as an Australian I have to admit that it can. While I agree with DG that "wog",and "chink" are not spoken nearly as often as they were, say 30 to 40 years ago,the racist mentality that gave rise to these expressions is still alive and well in the minds of many older Australians, although "leb"(Lebanese) has probably replaced "wog",pejoratively speaking. There are many more citizens, and permanent residents,of Chinese origin living in Australia than 30 to 40 years ago,but there is considerable resentment, mainly among less well educated Australians,as to their rapid increase in numbers, and their success in business, and the professions such as law and medicine. Pauline Hanson may be living in the UK, but I very much doubt that her supporters have changed their minds about keeping Asians out of Australia.
