Hello all
Doesn;t everyone have there status as to whos head you can or can not touch?? If your of superior status then you can touch the head of a inferior. Adults have a higher status then children ok to touch there heads. Males have more status then females so ok to touch there heads. The King has the highest of all status and Nobody can touch his head Even on the Money. What do you guys think

B4B and Mr. J - OK, but one has to be careful as to how one defines "Superior status".
An adult, whose Kharma is more soiled than that of a child, who is more enlightened, is not superior.
In some Buddhist sects, none of which I think are active in Thailand, men are instantly granted higher status than women.
Yes, Thailand combines and accepts a number of practices under the umbrella identification of Buddhism but at its core, Thai Buddhism is the closest to the original teachings of Sidhartha, which does NOT differentiate between men and women at all, of any countries' Buddhistic beliefs that I have seen including India.
When in doubt, in public, never touch the top of anyone's head. In private, when meeting or interacting with people for the first time, do as you will but be aware of reactions from those around you.

To come back to "this guy" -- why are all of us getting so exercised about his activities ? For one, there are many such sites specialising in "exploited teens" all around the globe. There are also, I am sure, hundreds of men going "bareback" in LOS and possibly infecting many girls, if not with HIV then with other communicable diseases. So he is not the only dangerous guy who is likey spreading disease.
So what are the reasons for bothering with "Who the f_ck is this guy?"

Boomer: I shouldn't have gotten into this topic without being prepared to go into depth. Unfortuanately (or rather fortunately) I've been summoned to the conjugal bed.
Let me simply point out one thing and perhaps elaborate tomorrow; very few Thais know much about, let alone practice anything resembling Buddhism at its core.
In practice women are social inferiors in many ways and this is taken for granted. Hence, for example, a male typically being referred to as "Phii" and a woman as "Nong" even without knowledge of each other's ages. then there is the dimunitive "noo" which is also used by adult females but only male children.
You post isn't wrong in theory...
Oh, and I won't quibble over the word "superior" but when I accepted its use in this context I meant socially and not kharmically or spiritually. The key word in that phrase was "status".

I understand and accept all of what you say regarding Thai society but at the same time, I've spent the majority of my time in Thailand not only within Buddhist temples but also among Buddhist priests and monks and I do not try to preach but instead try to show a possible different point of view.
Personally, I do not accept the Thai society's position, which is similar to the current Japanese position, that Women have a lower status than men and I will not treat women based on what is acceptable in society if it is lower than my personal beliefs.
Probably the only importance, if any, of what I write is that one does not deal with a society but with individuals within a given society. And, within a given society there is a range of beliefs of individuals which begin on one side with none at all to the other extreme which is total understanding and acceptance.
Is one likely to run into a problem in the P4P arena? No, but is one likely to run into problems in the meeting the family arena, maybe.
I do not mean to contradict you or anyone else but instead, provide a different point of view that may be useful.

give me a break for once.
i never said i thought there was a taboo against touching the head.
just my experience of what happened to me.
i know a few non Thai BG families and i spent time with them.
they 'seemed' happy for me to play with their children and never a word of dissent if i touched the head.
but as you say,they might not have liked me touching the head whilst saying nothing.
if i was doing wrong in their eyes,i would not know unless they told me.
if they say nothing,how am i to know i am doing wrong?.
yes i agree the BG's might have to adapt their ways and change their outlook on life while dealing with us falangs.
i also read it is against tradition to show affection in public,hold hands etc.
again i found no problem,and i usually never made the first move.
but on the head question i was really i'm thinking of the non BG people.
as to the question of status,again i only know from experience.
the 'head of security' at one of my favourite Go-Go's was in my eyes an arrogant barstard.
for over a year we never talked but nodded our heads at one another.
one day he got in a bit of trouble with some sailors and i helped him out.
after that we became friendly and whenever i saw him we would shadow box and have a little grapple.
more then once i put him in a headlock and had fun with him.
he never took offence and came up smiling and the girls found it funny as well.
i know the BG's have to adapt and
