I roasted the faking norwegian by dropping some s l I g h t l y offset comments and he didn't rect, just said "Yes...yes, it was that" or confirming my "mistakes" as facts.
Simply avoided him after that.

Big D and Sanook,
Big D's MOS's are correct for the Army ie 11B. All the army MOS's are a number and letter combination, followed by what rank level 10, 20, 30, 40. 10= E1-E4, 20= E5-E6, Etc.
The Army use to take MOS tests, but has not had those for the past 13-14yrs.

The Army I was in did not use letters.
I was a "picket fence". Anybody know what that was?

The "S" in MOS stands for Speciality, not skill. At least it did in the brown shoe days.

111, infantry, grunt, ground pounder, rifleman, tip of the spear. They started using letters around 1963 or so. I'm always fascinated by the number of wannabe fakes. These guys life are so shallow they have to make things up. Sad.......

Only the Army used the letter combo. Marines used numbers. Navy/Air Force used something different.

I typed "Military Occupational Specialty" into Google and looked around for a while.
Things have CHANGED!
With "X" representing a number and "L" representing a letter, here are the formats for U.S. Military Occupational Specialties since March of 2001, BUT NOT IN ALL CASES, e.g., a Navy MOS can revert back to a 4 digit number in certain fields that require "advanced training."
U.S. Army: XXLXX
U.S. Air Force: XLXXX
U.S. Navy: LL-XXXX
U.S. Marines: XXXX
The Coast Guard uses letters and apparently hasn't changed in recent years.
