Can anyone recommend a decent reasonbly priced hairdressers around the Sukhumvit area? I have used an okay one in The Emporium but have been toldI paid Farang prices for what was clearly an average haircut. I'm not looking for some old guy who believes a mullet is still acceptable in 2003 but somewhere that does understand current trends and styles...cheers

There are two along Sukhumvit between Soi 7 and Soi 11, opposite side to Landmark Hotel and another in Soi 3, just up from the Bamboo bar. All have nice friendly girls, short skirts and good legs. About 150-200Baht a head hair cut and a bit more for the pubic-yours not hers.

Beside The Emporium, if you are young (at heart) and trendy, Give it a try at some hairdressers shops around Siam area inside Siam Center or ones in Siam Discovery Center, A.KA. "Teenagers hang out". Always good for making hair do every style you want. Cut, between 300-500 B.

This is Sad (only 2 suggestions in 4 days so far above...in a city where the salons outnumber the bars and MPs)
Sorry, I know its not on Suk (maybe there's a branch, I dont know) but my favorite hairdressers are Chalachoal (pronounced CHA-LAH-CHOL, ask any young lady nearby and she'll point u in right direction) either next to Robinson's at Ratchada or the same next to Sala Deang skytrain station.
What I like about them:
-ultra-modern
-Normal local prices, (maybe 50-100B more than one of the hundreds of little salons that dot Bkk, well worth the extra IMO)
-great staff, fab service
- the wash/cut/wash was modern
- New Age atmosphere/music
-LOTS of regular/middle/upper young/older Thai ladies patronise their establishments
-they've got heaps of magazines (eg.GQ, fashion mags) for you to choose your do' from
What may be a problem is language as almost none speaks English.....seen very very few farang clients the few times I've been there. But some simple hand language should see u through.
-LASTLY, they make an effort to make sure you leave the place with your clothes free from little irritating and itchy bits of hair (so you dont need to go back to your hotel for a shower and/or a change of clothes)
Dont forget to tip the guy/girl (about 100B should do it, but up to u) The whole deal should cost you less than US$10. Put aside an hour for a simple wash n cut.
