Gents,
I couldn't find a thread on this, if I missed one, my apaologies, please redirect.
I have a long term regular TBG of several tours and I am getting sick of hanging around Bangkok with her. I'm also getting a little tired of the bar scene that I enjoyed so much. Hopefully it's just a phase that I will get over.
It occurred to me that I could take her on a little trip, say, Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai whatever, for maybe five days or so.
So has anybody done this? What went right?..and What went wrong?..besides butterflying restrictions.
My main concern at the moment is will she 'be into it' or would she sleep most of the holiday. This would shit me as I am fairly active. Damn I hate TBG sleep patterns - my body clock & hers are about four hours out of synch....which is to be expected I guess.
Anything else?

maybe go visit her village? I do every trip, get on the motorcycle and drive around drunk all the time, sit around at night and drink with the locals... a great experience although some people don't care for it.....
personally, it is a great mental break for me

Good:
Take her to her village. Get Mum, Dad and the rest of the family drunk and spend a dosh of cash to make her look good in the eyes of the villagers on your expense.
Bad:
Let her walk for extended periods of time
Stay in a luxury hotel and take her for expensive dinners, while she normally sleeps on the floor and eats som tam all day.

It sounds like your dilema is that you keep hanging out with the same girl, and that is the reason you are getting bored. What good is a bar scene if you have some other girl latched onto you every Holiday.
If you are worried about her sleeping all day. Why don't you recruit one to go with you who won't be lazy, and is not bored with YOU already either.

Getting another for a holiday could be a very good or very bad move...at least she is a known quantity. So, I to put some time into a search.

Last month I took the same regular on 2 side trips, Chiang Mai for 4 days and then Phuket for 9 days. It was the first time she'd flown which generated a lot of excitement, and as soon as we landed in each destination she had to ring up a load of family and friends for the 'You'll never guess where I am now' bit, relishing the fact that she'd become the most widely-travelled member of her family.
She wasn't too impressed with Chiang Mai at first but I think that had more to do with us meeting up with LY for lunch when we arrived and the lunch turning into an all afternoon drinking session whilst LY and I debated as to which of the waitresses had the best arse.
When we got around to doing some sightseeing the following day she was well up for it and enjoyed having her picture taken at each of the many temples we visited. Doi Suthep (sp?) was a big hit, she proclaimed it the most beautiful place she'd ever seen and insisted on getting a 'professional' picture taken of the two of us which she then carried around with her everywhere. Never had a problem with her sleeping all the time as she was always too eager to go out and see more and at times was more into it than I was.
I think one of the main reasons she liked Chiang Mai though was the food. Pretty much everywhere we ate she liked the food or if there wasn't anything she wanted on the menu she could always nip off to get some som tam which kept her happy. This wasn't the case with Phuket.
We had a good laugh on Phuket, I taught her to swim in the hotel pool and we had some nice lazy days doing nothing in the sun and some good nights out in the clubs of patong, but everywhere we went to eat, from Moma Tri's Boathouse down to the vendors on the street, she pronounced the food 'mai aloi'. Even when she disappeared to get a som tam fix she came back complaining that 'people Phuket cannot cook'. She also decided that 'this not thailand, this falangland' and complained that there were too many falang on Phuket, which suprised me considering she lives in Pattaya.
Of the two places I'd expected her to be bored in CM but to enjoy Phuket but when we got back to BKK she reckoned 'next time I think good better we go Chiang Mai 9 days, Phuket 4 days....and when we go Phuket I take food'.

I have taken Dew all over Thailand (Chiang Mai, Phuket, Koh Chang, Koh Tao, Koh Samui, Koh Samed, Kanchaburi, etc.). She's also been to Hong Kong with me. Also taken Mist to CM, Phuket, Rayong, Koh Samed.) Two other girls (or was it three?) went with me to Koh Samed. Soi33CanDo and I have been to a few places together in Thailand. You can read most of the FRs in the "Elsewhere in Thailand" section. I think I have written about 10 FRs, the "bargirl transition day" in Koh Samed is a classic. Spent 4 days there, but "changed lady" mid-trip, sent one back on the bus as another one was arriving.  Fun.
The trick to having a good time is to find a girl that will be fun. If she is active in Bangkok, she will be active on holiday. If everytime she walks out in the bright sun in Bangkok, she shields her face and looks like she is longing for nighttime, she is not a good candidate.  If she sleeps all day and watches Thai soap operas... you get the picture. A 'test' might be to take her to a few "active" things in Bangkok. Bowling, golf driving range, ice skating and see how she does. All TGs/BGs are not lazy (but many, many are). Soi33CanDo insisted we climb a mountain on Koh Larn. Dew loved mountain biking and white-water river rafting.
As West pointed out, food is sometimes a problem but each girl is different. Mist would try and eat anything, and actually likes pizza (always with french fries). Dew is much pickier (doesn't like western food at all) but it really isn't too much of a problem in Thailand. She struggled a bit in Hong Kong though (I have written the DewInHongKong FR, I really should post it).
You might try this too... judge her reaction when you tell her you want to take her on holiday for 3 days, but cannot pay her daily rate, only a fraction of it. See if the excitement about the holiday goes away. This might give you an indication of whether she really wants to go.
If you really like the girl and want to find something SHE might like to do, pick up a travel magazine in Thai language (there are a couple of them, get them at any good Thai language bookstore) and see what gets her eye.
A 2-3-day trip is good, not too long. This might be my problem because I cannot be with a single TG for more than a couple of days.  Some other guys spend a week or more with the same TG, so this definitely must be my problem.

Just as CG said why didn't you post or look in "Elsewhere In Thailand?" I have taken two different girls, one to Koh Samet and one to Koh Chang. You are correct IMHO that because you get along with her well and know her well that you will have a better side trip. I'm quite sure that's why CG took Dew all over the place.

One thing I would add. While it might be envisioned to be more fun if you take two or more girls with you on a trip, I would reccomend just taking ONE.
I have taken 2, and 4 on separate trips, and I wound up regretting it. One would have been a lot less hassles.

Thank you for sharing your experience of this with me, and for some good advice. It really is unchartered territory, and this has helped a lot.
I will feed back info on choice of companion and the trip on this thread.
In hindsight, I have got her to get into activities over the tours, besides eating, drinking, rooting and sleeping, and she seemed to have a good time. We have bowled, caught boats upriver for nice lunches, and she has started to pack swimmers in her overnight kit when she joins me - I swim (poorly) each morning.
The sleeping problem could be that I have not pushed activities hard enough lately, and I was trying to get in-synch with her patterns. BUT, I found myself laying around in the a.m. getting restless, making more boom-boom for something to do, and then her falling to sleep again...not so bad, but frustratingly 'circular'.
A short trip is a real good idea. I wonder whether she would take a cut in fees, hah. Still we are on sort of a fixed number whether I stay seven or ten days...this will be a test.
I know the pitfalls with more than one TBG on an outing, at least in BKK, since I generally bar-fine two of her friends once each trip, for a big night out.....still I have fun, even though I am sometimes oblivious to what they are going on about. Crazy Farang?
Chiang Mai sounds good, and I haven't been North before.
