I recently took my car for a service at B-Quik, and they advised me that my tyres had passed their expiry date.
They advised that tyres in Thailand have a 2 yr life span after which they must be replaced, irrespective of tread !
I have 4 bridgestone turanza tyres, 2 of which I brought new only 10 mths ago, but they had all apparently expired ! And there is plenty of tread on all of them.
Was this a sales pitch/con or has anyone else heard of this, I know in the UK there is no such expiry.
I asked the guy at B-Quik to quote me tyres that do not expire after 2yrs and he said there are non available in Thailand !
Sounds very fishy to me. Anyone experience this or know better ?
Needless to say I have not changed the tyres, but want to make sure i'm not driving around on dangerous tyres.

Never heard of this rule... especially in LOS. I would check the manufacturer website for advice but IMO, you are correct about the tread being the deciding factor.
And BTW, how did they know when the "start date" for your tires was to determine the expiry?

One thing I know is that any type of rubber products in Thailand seem to deteriorate much faster here. I do not know if it is the pollution, hot weather or what. I had a few pair of name brand shoes that sat in a shoe cabinet for about two years one pair never worn, one day I decided to wear them and they just disintegrated. As I write this I am looking at a couple of office chairs that were shipped from the USA, the rubber padded arms are just crumpling off. Since this is in a protective environment I would think itis something in the air.

Tires have the month and year of manufacture printed on them, but obviously that is not when they are placed in service.
I doubt seriously if there is any Thai law regarding replacing tires after 2 years of service.
You should be able to visually determine if the tire sidewall is cracking that would cause the tire to be replaced even if it has sufficient tread.

sounds like the BS that the guys at the filling station tried to tell my GF
they said to pop the hood to check the coolant and oil, etc.
after a quick look, they said her coolant was too brown and should be replace, wouldn't take long, but would cost 1,000 Baht
I told her to tell them to get f***ed, and I would do the job myself with coolant we could buy ourselves

Yeah, Mr. Alan has the right advice. Checkout the sidewalls for cracks. All these rubber problems first show up as cracks.
