Arrived Nov. 23, had surgery Nov. 28 in Bumrungrad, doctor said come back on Dec. 28th for final review and OK to leave country. Went to 3rd floor immigration to get extension a week after surgery. They said would be 500 Baht per day overstay and 1900 Baht for doing paperwork. Shit, 3900 Baht! That's a chunk and all because doc wanted 30 days exactly for final exam after surgery. Told immigration that hospital/doctor said come back on 28th, so why charge me? Anyway got no where so guess it is valid, and just paid it. I guess I am surprised that after investing 185,000 Baht in their health system, thought I would get free medical extension. Anybody else been in a similiar situation or maybe just a visa overstay situation?

Why didn't you apply for the appropriate visa in the fist place ???? MEDICAL TREATMENT (requiring letter from licensed doctor). (Maximum stay 90 days, extension of stay may be applied in Thailand.) OH well Mai pen rai. MG

Because he nor I did not originally expect the 30 day checkout. Minor complications during surgery required this. Doctor did offer to do the letter when it was found I would be 5 days over, but would not have mattered so immigration said.

You could have done a border run for 2-3000, and stay another 30 days.

bit confused here, with a 30 day visa on arrival you used to be able to get a 7 day extension for 1900 and no 500 day overcharge, have they changed the rule? and anyway 23rd nov to 28th dec is 35 days? so if you just left on the 28th the charge should only be 5 days at 500 2500, why do you need to pay 1900 extra and 1900 plus 2500 is 4400 not 3900???

Indeed. The simpliest thing is to go to the border (Poi Pet or Ban Leam) and get another 30 days.

Back from Thailand now and can log onto BTF forum again. The whole idea of this thread was to find out what others have paid for overstays, to see if I got ripped off. I paid 2000 Baht for 4 days overstay and also 1900 Baht for whatever they called it (service fee?) --3900 Baht total and got a 7 day extension. Remember, going to the border was not an option, as still not fully recovered from surgery, and didn't want to sit in cramped van and also waste a day. Besides, I went into immigration with the idea that if I presented my receipt from the hospital that they would waive any fees and extend me 7 days minimum. When that did not happen, I expected a charge of 500 Baht per day which was still cheaper than going to the border (and easier). It was the 1900 Baht charge that I am curious about and then plus the 500 Baht a day. RTB: The Bumrungrad Visa renewal section is on the 3rd floor, adjacent to foreigner hospital registration, not 1 st floor.
