Hi All

My pal and his life partner have decided to get married...both are English but want to thai the knot in Thailand this december. Last year they came to LOS for 1st time and spent a magical 3 weeks with me and my TG.

My TG and I will be with them probably in Phuket/Pi Pi. THey want to have a small ceremony, nothing flashy. Neither of them are bhudist.

My questions are:

are there officials who can perform the wedding?

Can the ceremony take place in any location, ie on a beach- in a bar-up a mountain?

Any ideas would be most welcome.

I am sure there are some old sea captain members of BTF who would like to volunteer and perform the part of vicar-however the image of one of us with half a dozen Bgs as bridesmaids is not quite what my chum has in mind.

Try starting with their Embassy for a list of Justices/officials who will perform an outdoor ceremony, and for a list of required documentation, as recordation will probably have to be routed through the Embassy in any case.

Yes, their Embassy is a good place to start if not to perform the actual ceremony, although I gather that they are after a little bit more of a romantic setting than the bare diplomatic walls.

The Embassy could also tell them if the ceremony that they are going for here in Thailand will in any way or every way be recognised in their own country and abroad.

I know that Debaucher wont mind my mentioning the fact that he found out ages later that the cerermony he had done in one of the fishbowls here wasn't really counted as legit back in his own country.

And the guy who got married on the floor of the Star of Light, well, I haven't seen him since.................nor the girl. She was delightful. I particularly liked the slight alteration to the customary 'kissing of the bride' at that ceremony. Unique.

I know if you go through a village wedding/blessing, you need to go to your local registry office in your area to get it legitimized and officially recorded......so I guess it would be the same for a beach wedding.

If marriage status gained here is anything compared to University degree status gained here, then there is serious doubt as to its international recognition. But I could be wrong and have been in the past...countless times.

Another ideal venue would be the Eden Club, but I digress.

thanks joe

most imformative. Shall get the ball rolling.

Theyve been living together for years. He was so overcome by Thailand, the places we stayed, ambience etc...I think the young romantic in him has come to the surface. Oh yes, he hasnt told his partner of this intention to have a ceremony although I know they've been talking about making things legal for ages but are too busy to do anything about it.

Of course if he came on his own the young romantic bit would have come out in a different way.

I have often thought about a wedding at Eden. 40 Eden girl bridesmaids all dressed in virginal white lingerie forming a cordon through the bar, upthe stairs and along the corridor to the room at the end where waiting for me would be my 2 choices in full wedding dresses. But then that would be big of me.

You'll find that resorts in a number of nice places offer to undertake the whole arrangement for them, on the beach if that's the wish. Considering thai price level it may npt be so expensive. You get a deal with monks, food, and the usual ceremony.

"Life partner",, "his partner",,, they're both English?

AHHHH, would you be asking about a GAY couple,, well more politically correct, a same sex marriage and whether it is legal in Thailand?

It could just be your usage of the Australian language ( sorry England we took over) but your wording never mentions SHE.
I cannot help on the legality of same sex marriages in Thailand.

As stated,, I may be completely wrong about what your talking about,, but if I'm not, Dr Love,, these posts are in the wrong section,, belong in Lady boy forum.

Mel.

P.S
Sarge would be a lovely bridesmaid,, he is English and definately of questionable sexual orientation.

getting married on an exotic Thai island was quite fashionable a few years ago in England, and kho samui being the fav destination. There are several agencies out there that can take care of every details and all the necessary paperwork. December & January are the best months. See this website for further information. I am sure your mate and his fiancee will have a great wedding in Thailand.

If they are divers, they can get married underwater at Koh Kradan:

As far as getting married and having the marriage being official, having the wedding accidentally not be "recognized" might come in handy at divorce time.
