In one of my last trips, two days went wasted because of either Buddha or King related function. Most bars were closed and girls headed to visit their families.
My trip is set from Nov 22nd thru Dec 4th. Wondering if there are any holidays during that time. May fly over to Camby to check out Ankor wat at that time.

Loy Krathong is the 24th I believe, a phenomenal holiday, especially up north. I'll be celebrating in Chiang Mai, they do two big nights with fire balloons (kom loy), krathongs on the river, and a big beauty pageant/parade. Do a google search for photos!
You'll just miss the King's 80th birthday, which is on Dec 5.

The BIG party in BKK is under the west end of the Rama VIII bridge, I was there in '05 and did some remarkable night photography of the locals and the holiday customs. A couple of large stages with modern and traditional music/dance. The crowd gets a bit overwhelming as the night goes on though. Seems like all 11 million residents are down there...
I certainly don't think everyone (or hardly anyone) "leaves town." I had several massage girls (legit and p4p) ask me to go with them to the festivities.

I'd love to go there. Does the skytrain (?) go there. Or what would I ask for when I tell the taxi driver to take me there?

I suppose you'd say "saphon lama baad," but traffic is horrendous there at that time.
I'd take a river taxi from saphon thaksin BTS stop, get on a boat with an orange flag going UP river (about 15 baht), it stops at the east end of the Rama VIII bridge, you go up and walk across (really cool bridge) then down to the park.
