Dear fellow Mongers,

As some of you are aware, I have been happily living and working my ass off in Seoul, South Korea since August last. But last week, I got an unexpected long weekend due to the proximity on the calendar of the Labor Day & Children's Day [a big deal! here] holidays.

And so, seizing the moment, I booked a flight and hightailed it into town for the long weekend. Sweet! And indeed, it 'twas a great respite from Seoul.

However, a small problem arose after visiting Narin on soi 8 and placing an order with him. I just got word by email that there is no more material of the burgundy material for the order I placed.
Damn!

Now he want's to know if he can use the material which is close. Uh, define 'close'. Hmmm... I smell trouble brewing. Ok, but only after I get a look at it...

For your see, the tally for the pants, the shirts and the postage to ship them to me here were paid-up at the time I left his shop. I had then selected two colors (for two sets of trousers) from a block of fabric samples from amongst his finer quality of worsted wools.

So here I am now, back in Seoul again, and wondering what would be the best way to either select another color or affirm his choice.

Seems to me like some one of you with a camera handy in the neighborhood may not mind dropping in to have a look at his samples, snap a JPG and email it to me.

Any volunteers? Oh, and lest we violate the intent of the forum, I'll be happy to oblige your cooperation with a complimentary visit to Lolita's around the corner at your convenience.

Cheerio,
Skip

Right, so let's say I am able to pull this off (I actually am), how are you, from Seoul, going to arrange a complimentary visit to Lolitas? that is the intriguing question

PM me, we might be able to work it out.

oh, and I am not sure I'm keen on getting an STD from Lolitas so I guess I'll do it for free

Skip,

I've bought suits while stationed in Korea and while on holiday in Thailand which means it was made by Pakistanis and the money goes God knows where.

The Korean suits were top notch, but more expensive than Thailand. However less expensive and better fitting than a store bought suit.

The belt loops broke right when I put on my Quaida special after I went home and I was embarrassed to have even entertained buying a suit in Thailand, let alone do it.

I hope you didn't leave a deposit. If you did consider it tuition for a lesson on wasting your money and graduate right now. You are in the best locale for hand tailored suits anyhow.

Best

I think Skip did mention that he has paid for the lot on leaving the shop.

Nic's offer is outstanding, but maybe if you could offer him the same at SOL ( same price - but different ladies and environment ), I think he might just jump at the chance.

But with photos, I don't know if you'd get the real impression.
Could you not request the shop to post you a sample of the alternative colour ?

Yes that would be the best solution

This might be better under the other tailor thread but its similiar to this situation so f*ck it:

Skip,

This is ironic as I am in almost the same delima; however, my friend who recommended the tailor rectified the situation for me just yesterday.

I went to Armani (should have know better by the creative name lol) not far from nana station with a friend that lives in BKK and said he gets all his shirts made there.

I picked out 5 shirts and got fitted and figured why not add a suit. So got fitted and came in 2 days before my return and the lining was the wrong color and the pockets on the jacket were not what I asked for nor were the buttons on the jacket. Fabric/Fit was OK.

So they say they will fix it and for me to come back Saturday (when I was leaving) which I did and it wasnt ready. They said can you come back at 4pm (it was about 10:30 am at the time.)

I was pissed, as mrs atl and I had to leave for the airport from the MBK area at 5 and I wanted a thai massage before the journey.

I got angry with the guy, but had to control it as one of my best friends refered me. I said basically, "screw this just give me the shirts and I dont need the suit!"

I became aware my request wasnt gonna happen and I started to get into my "what type of business are you running here?" routine.......uneffective

Long story short mrs atl told me "nothing you can do tilac, he no good but dont cause problem."

so I paid him up plus shipping cost (which was crazy expensive) only to get home with an email saying the fabric I requested for the lining of the jacket and pants, twice, wasnt available. It probably hadnt been before but they tried to slip it past me anyway.

thats it, I called my friend that refered me and he went down Friday (BKK Time) and straightened it out. Emailed me back saying he picked a good lining (I trust his opinion on clothes) and they said they would include a new shirt for my trouble. woop tee f***in do

We will see if I am satisfied when/if it gets here...

Its sad these guys are all the same. I have been pleased with every shirt I have had made but with none of the 4 suits from 3 seperate tailors.

Hope it works out for ya skip...and thats mighty kind of you NF...

cheers guys,
atl

He's not Thai, so Mrs Atl's rules based on dealing with Thai people don't apply.

So the solution is to give the tailor even more money?

Almost everything you purchase in proximity of available pussy (i.e. LOWER Sukhumvit) will be overpriced and lower quality - except the pussy, of course.

Taj Mahal Clothiers taylors next to Nana.

Had plenty of shirts made there the past 4 years - all are still fine. Had slacks made there, same story. Good fabrics (they use European fabrics), and rarely a problem with the cut or fit -- once or twice they got the monograms or some minor detail wrong, but always corrected it within a day.

The last time I was there, I brought them the last 48 shirts they made me, and requested them to be altered since I lost so much weight - albeit I was more than willing to pay for the task (recognizing it was a lot of work), they refused, and did all of the alterations at no charge...

They also do not ask for everything to be pre-paid --- I usually give them 2-3,000 Baht as a down payment, and the rest upon delivery. They measure you, you show up the next day for a fitting, and the rest of the work is usually done within 2-3 days later.

I've been quite happy with them - YMMV, of course.

Tip, On first or second day of holiday get fitted for your shirt/suit purchases this allows plenty of time to fix screw ups.

I go to Tony's Fashion House (110/2-7 Rangnam Rd Rajprarop) reccomended by Conrad Hotel, free transportation to/from Hotel and cold beverage (beer) offered immediatily. When picking material always pick from stock on hand to avoid problems
