What would be the cost of a typical funeral in Phuket? And how much would be typically spent to make merit? Offerings to monks, etc.

Thanks for the link. About what I expected. Somewhere between 15000 and 30000. * The funeral costs include using a temple's morgue and paying for prayer services, cremation, undertakers, wreaths, refreshments, shrouds, ceremonial rope and souvenirs. * A funeral can cost from Bt9,000 to more than Bt70,000, varying according to the number of days it lasts and the size of the temple. * Usually, a Buddhist funeral lasts for between three and seven days. A three-day funeral at a small temple could cost less than Bt15,000.

getting cremated is free it's all the merry-making that f***in' costs you tell the relatives to stay the f*** at home and hire out 3 monks to bless the body before it gets cooked.

20,000 baht ($625US) is not that bad. I'd be relieved that it was only 20,000 baht. I know the constant hand out gets old. My regards to the family and sorry about Grandma. Respect the dead and honour life, it is later than we think.

My regards also Thailife, bad scene indeed. Hard to believe how tough that generation are. Met my granny in-law again this last Songkran (father-in-law's mum). She's 90 ish and has just learnt a couple of English words - as a courtesy to me I guess - wife worried "yaa" would "finish" before we married 3 years ago. I wouldn't have taken that bet, then or now. Stick thin, scrawny and squatting in a little shack outside Nakon Sawan - whatever she is made of I wish I had more of it in me. Same as you, I expect I'll be paying for the funeral...glad to...hope I'm still here to...Enjoy.
