A question if I may....

i think most people will agree that it's 99% certain that the courts will rule for the PPP to dissolve tommorrow....... what happens after that ?

There will be no government, Somchai is no longer PM, the PAD have achieved what they want so presumably they will leave the airport, and then what....Gen Anupong takes over at the helm whilst new elections are prepared for ? Meanwhile ensuring plenty of charter re-writes are done in favour of the PAD backers.

New elections that will need to be fixed, there's no way in the world the PAD backers will allow someone they don't want at the top to win after all of this, so pretty sure on the outcome there, so then what happens, do the yellow shirted protesters get replaced by red shirted ones who now want to force the new government to quit ?

I can't see any win win anymore, whatever way this turns out. Prolonged political turmoil and instability are the only sure things, but the potential for a far more violent scenario is also very real.....what do you think ?

The key for the new PPP, what ever they call themselves after the court dissolves the current PPP, is to distance themselves from square-head no pants, and to not try and muck too much with the constitution (to piss off the army and the PAD). They the new/old PPP can (and IMO will) win the next election they just have to keep from rubbing the PAD’s nose in it when they do win, and avoid giving the PAD any leg to stand on for further protests.

The red-shirts cannot stage and maintain a long drawn out protest campaign similar to that of the yellow shirts because they don’t have the funds or the power backing. Too many of them have to actually work for a living, and without the top tier power backing any red shirt protest that was somehow able to last more than a day would soon be put down by the army if not then the police at the bequest of the powers that be and/or the army.

Tin foil hat time:
And while I think the chances are high that the courts will dissolve the PPP. I am not so sure this was a forgone conclussion prior to the PAD capture of the airports. It might just be that the recent acceptance by the PAD to allow some flights out of the swap have been as a concession in the negotiations that have secured for them (the PAD) the outcome they want out of the court. A show of good will if you will that when the court does as the PAD wants they will indeed leave the airports - for now. Or does this not sound like too much of a stretch?

Your average sex tourist is a very determined species, it takes more than a few airport closures / cancelled flights / martial law / revolutions, to deter him.
You bet! I'm looking into chartering crop dusters at this point

Yeap, I agree. I'm supposed to go to BKK on the 10th.
I do not think there is anyone more anxious in keeping track of the outcome.

I too am a dedicated and determined monger but the problem is I always travel to Thailand "under the radar". Family and employer always think I'm vacationing elsewhere. I'm already booked for next February but somewhat concerned that, if this flared up again and I got stranded, I'd have some serious explaining to do. The family would probably accept "got sick, had to stay over a few days" but my employer would want to see paperwork. Wondering if maybe I should book for KL in future and then fly up to BKK knowing I could always overland it back if things got sticky. The irony is that my family/employer vacation cover story this time around is...yep..Mumbai. Is there nowhere stable in the East anymore :-(

You are right - I did the same thing a few weeks ago - said I was in Amsterdam - really in BKK. I was shitting myself as the PAD crap built up again (was caught in Phuket in the summer). Thankfully I made it back this time but I had visions of camel riding through deserts to get back in time. This has really put a question on future off the radar BKK trips as this can happen again at any time. I think KL is probably the best option, but I bet when push comes to shove you wont want to loose 2 monging days farting about travelling from and to KL.

Guys,

I've been scanning the news reports and it doesnt mention what the Palace has to say about all this. Am I over-estimating his influence when I imagine that all that would take for this to stop is for the king to go on TV and tell the protesters to desist?

Does this mean he is at least tacitly supporting the protesters?
