The Thai film (from about two years ago) "Yes or No" is an excellent overview of a Tom/Dee relationship. Made by a Thai lesbian director and very well done. Hard to find with English subtitles, as is the case with most Thai films on DVD; I had to order it from YesAsia (I think the one I got is the Singapore release). Haven't seen the sequel, which came out earlier this year.
Very often the femme (Dee) member in a Tom/Dee pairing will not identify as lesbian at all...when you get right down to it, she doesn't "have to," she can just present as any other Thai girl, as long as she doesn't mind being seen in public with her Tom girlfriend. It's the Toms who take all the social risks, if you want to look at it that way. I have never, in fact, heard any Thai woman with a Tom girlfriend say that she's lesbian, or "Dee" for that matter. She just happens to have a husband/boyfriend who's a girl--that's how it's always presented to me. I've f***ed many bargirls who fit this profile.
