Hi Brothers,

I'll be going to LOS for my first visit in January. I've read several threads here and on Stickman where newbies reporting on their first night out in BKK write something like, "Yup, I was dressed like a newbie!" but they don't describe what that actually looks like. Can you veteran resident farang help me out here? As I've written elsewhere, I'm more on the quiet, respectful side, and will be looking for nice, sweet GFE's in that vein. In your opinion what is the best dress code? Could there be an advantage to looking like a newbie?

Thanks,
Luke

Nice shirt, pants. Clothes that are lightweight. Weather in January is decent. Bring plenty of shirts. Sometimes LOS can be a three shirt day. Personally I wear shorts and decent shirt and I find the BG are all over me.

Mr Alan
If you are in BKK, I would recommend long pants. What you wear to bars, go-go's, etc may not matter much (if you flash enough money), but when out in public, Thais rarely wear shorts (at least in BKK).

Nothing fancy, just cotton pants and shirt. The sidewalks can be as treacherous as a small rock climb, so sturdy footwear is recommended (sandals are not the best choice).

I think most Newbies dress like Newbies in the following ways (1) the clothes are all new and look it. Knife edge creases top and bottom (2) they are overdressed, almost formal, long pants, shoes and socks because the guide book said shorts were unacceptable etc and (3) the clothes were bought that afternoon at any of 10 stalls within 100m of the bar.....but looking like a Newbie has more to do with behaviour than just clothing...the stance, the walk, the look in the eye etc. And once you speak...most times its game over.....IMHO I think looking like a newbie will be counter productive with regard to the type of GFE you are seeking. Enjoy.

Newbie dress is a big myth. There are lots of ppl dressed in t-shirts, shorts, and sandals in BKK, and after being stuffed in a suitcase, of course everything is wrinkled. Most falangs dress like this, so it's not the dress that is newbie. It's the walk, and the look.

Walk 10 feet, stop, and look. That classic newbie look, mouth hanging open, eyes like giant saucers, head going from side to side, and intense sensory overload.

As a newbie you'll find that it is just too much to take in all at once walking more than 10 feet at a time, be it on the sidewalks, exploring the gogos, or crossing the street. This imho is truely the giveaway of a newbie.

Slacks, long or short sleeve shirts, and shoes, not sandals, will impress the TGs a little better than t-shirts, and jeans, as the rest have stated.

Get some new shirts, and slacks tailored. It only takes a day or 2, and the prices are right.

No matter what advice you get here, nothing will prepare you for your first walk in to NANA, your chin will hit the floor and you wont get the grin off your face for a week.

By this time of course you are well and trully hooked.

On the plane home you will be planning your next trip back, and when your home thinking about BKK the grin will be there.
Happy days!!

Being in the same situation as Luke I'd like to ask how long or how many trips it would take before you get over this newbie feeling?
