My 1st post, and my 1st trip to BKK 3/9/05-3/17/05. Had the time of my life, in part due to this forum. As a 20+ yr veteran of the Hawaii "by me drinkie" bars, I made a lot of mistakes and incorrect assumptions, and wanted to share what I learned:
1. The girls make at most B40 (~$1) off a drink. Nothing if they drink beer.
2. The girls make nothing off the barfine.
3. The going rate I got quoted all over the place was B2000 ST and B4000 LT.
4. If you want to tip the waitress, you need to specifically put the tip in her hand. If she brings back your change in a metal tray and you put the tip in the tray, it will be shared by all the girls. If you put it in her hand, it goes all to her.
5. Buying a girl a drink does not give you the right to take her off the stage for good. She can only sit down long enough to find out if you're going to pay her barfine right away, but if not she needs to finish her dances or the mama will cut her pay. When her round is up again, she needs to go back on stage and do her dances, even if you're the only customer in the bar!
I post these rules so that people understand where the girls are coming from. A friend of mine told me that the girls just want to get out of the bar and appreciate you paying their barfine. I wasn't aware of rules 1 & 2, and assumed that the girls were happy just talking to me as long as I was buying her drinks. Hell, a BG's "nekohana" in Hawaii is $20, and she keeps $16. Wrong assumption, wrong country.
Early on, after buying a girl a few drinks and paying her barfine, she took me drinking to some other bars that she knew were good. After about 2 hrs of barhopping, I left her behind and did not take her for ST. I thought I was being a gentleman by not asking her for sex, but actually I was wasting her time. She made very little money off that, and later on I found out that she just wanted to make sure her customers were having a good time (I spoke to her friend the next night). Oops!
Rule number 5 in particular is in direct contrast to what I am used to. If I buy a girl a drink in Hawaii and she leaves the table without even taking a sip, then she is dissing me. In BKK, she is obligated to finish her dances, as I noted even if I am the only customer in the bar (which did happen). This happened to me 3 times and I was getting really pissed before I figured out something was wrong and asked. I felt bad, as I left 3 girls behind who did nothing wrong and had a puzzled look on their faces as I walked out of the bar while they were on stage.
Don't make the same mistakes I did.

Welcome to the Brotherhood.
I'm glad that you had the time of your life, but had you read the Forum properly before you went, then you would have understood the mechanics of the whole thing a lot better than it seems you did.
For a start, experience in Hawaii, no matter for how long, has no relevance in Bangkok at all as you now realise.
You may have been quoted 2000ST and 4000LT, but I expect that you're not Japanese, so why would you pay those prices? Those prices are exactly what you said they were; quotes. They are negotiable, but if the girls tell a Newbie that those are the prices and he accepts them without question, then the girl's quids in, isn't she?

Perhaps some of these prices are beginning to be a bit dated now, but not to the extent that you were paying. You said that sometimes you were the only guy in the bar. So the girls weren't exactly fighting the guys off with a stick then? Therefore you had the whiphand when it came to price, didn't you? The right price is always what the customer is prepared to pay and the girl is prepared to accept and is not set in concrete. It depends on several factors like time of day and season, looks and age of girl, nationality of punter, the place, etc. But you were paying way over the odds, because you were a Newbie and they were trying it on.
What you posted were not rules at all. Merely guidance from your experience. As a rule, there are no rules, only expectations, assumptions and precedent.
The one that you barfined and took drinking must have been seething when you didn't take her back to your hotel for a good seeing to. I'm sorry mate, but you saying that you thought that by not screwing her you were being a gentleman is one of the funniest things I've read.  You must have been very embarassed the day after when her friend put you right.
I hope that the hour wasn't too late, as she would then have had to freelance to get another punter, or perhaps she might have gone back to the bar, although her BF was already paid by you.
But anyway, I'm glad that you enjoyed the experience, that's the main thing. Next time you'll be wiser and will enjoy it even more.
Most of us have been through this baptism of fire and made similar mistakes.

BlueHawaii - I'd say you are off to a good start - you seem to have learnt more than I did on my first trip. Well done.
I will question a couple of points you make but let me say that with so many bars, so many girls and so many stories - nothing is 100% correct for all bars and girls.
1. B40 - Sounds about right. Some bars give the girl a bonus payment is she exceeds XXXX amount of lady drinks in a month. Lots will cut her pay if she does not reach XXX.
2. What the girl gets from the barfine varies from bar to bar. I have heard of half, I have heard of B100 and I know one bar that pays a bonus of B1000 if the girl gets 20 or more barfines in a month.
3. This sounds like it is at the high end of the ST and LT scales but also about right until you can rub the NEWBIE sign off your forehead. No offence we have all worn them. Where were you? Patpong is my guess.
4. Correct. This goes for normal restaurants and hotels also not just the gogos and bars.
5. Correct also. Don't worry you are not the only one to conclude the girl was making an excuse to get away from you because 10 seconds after you bought her a drink she is back dancing on the stage. What you may not realise is that the lady drink sitting in front of you tells all the other girls you are already "targeted" and no other girl will come near you till the first one signals she has "struck out".
When the girl takes you drinking at another bar most times she is paying back a favour with your money - I'd hazard a guess she introduced you to her "sister" or friend at these other bars and you bought a drink or two for them. All in all is sounds like you came through with hardly a singe - most of us crashed and burnt on our first trips. Enjoy.

Or another example, Bar Y, Soi Cowboy, ladies get 1000B bonus (on top of their salary) when they get more than 10 b/f's per month. They also get a cut of the b/f and the lady drinks.

2000 st is right if you go to the big nana bars,but if you were the only customer 2000 would be too mut - this cumming from a guy who is happy to pay 2000 st with a good girl (one that I get along with). in las vegas a lap dance costs 800 baht for 3 minutes.

I had a feeling I was paying too much. I studied up for about a month on the internet, and even tried the ST calculator at http://www.bangkokbargirls.info/ST/selection.asp. I think it said B1500 for ST. The problem is I don't care. I consider myself to be a very generous person. I paid B2000 ST (NEP & Patpong), and tipped them another B1000 if they took care of me. I am by no means rich (most of you have more money in the bank than I do), but I've never had a wife or kids, got a pretty good job and make enough to enjoy life. Hell, I'll buy you guys all a round if I see you this Nov.
On the other hand, I hate all those 2-bit swindlers in BKK. At Safari, Patpong, the guy at the bottom of the stairs said no cover charge. I went up, ordered a beer, and 2 fat waitresses came by with a sign that said B100 beer, B100 show. I said 'no way!', and stood up. One of the fatsos grabbed my wrist. I twisted out of it and headed for the stairs. The bouncer, who was about 1.5 times my size, grabbed my wrist and I again twisted out of it and brushed past him down the stairs. I made up my mind that if he grabbed me from behind, I was going to yank him down the stairs and throw the 1st blow. Luckily, he let me go, 'cause I know I would have gotten my ass kicked for a lousy B100. I was dunk and pissed, and it was the principle of the matter.
Forgot to mention in my original post that I was the only one in the bar (at NEP, not the Safari story) because it was only 7 pm. Some of the girls were still trickling in in their civies. There were like 7 girls already on the stage, and I bought a cute young girl a drink. When I told her I wasn't ready to pay her bar fine because I just got here and wanted to drink a while, she left saying she had to change and get ready to dance. I just could not understand why they needed another girl on stage when I was the only customer in the bar. I walked out and complained about the girl to the others outside. I feel bad about that now. I think I'll make it up to her in Nov.

That's pretty cool how you guys know the bonuses the girls get for drinks and barfines. I was guessing they earned some type of brownie points for that stuff. With the language barrier and loud music, I don't think I could have gotten that type of info from the girls.
