2.Go on the outside and get a yellow cab, if you can; get one that is not in line yet, maybe if a long queue you get a better price.
3.Ask him to drive you too MBK. Go inside, buy a Thai SIM card like: one 2 call.
4.Go and get printed new set of business cards with a new name and your new Thai phone number.
5.Get the taxi that waited for you, to drive you to some hotel, go inside, ask their room price and try to get your hand on some address cards.
6.Drive too your Hotel where you staying and take a shower.
Now your ready!

Nothing personal but I'm skipping the trip to MBK, the business cards, the hotel search and going to Nana or Soi Cowboy or for a massage. That other stuff can wait until I've had a nice time with a tg after my 24 hour flight. I already know where I'm staying and I'm anxious to share my bed with a tg, not sit in a cab in Bangkok traffic.

you can also save 50b by going upstairs to departures and catching a cab that just let out a fare, like my favorite GIK & did when we arrived back from Phuket

why on Earth go to MBK just for a SIM card? 
they're for sale all over the nation, including the airport, and 7-11, and there's heaps of 7-11s

IMHO it is a BAD idea to waste time in a taxi looking for a hotel
the cabby is going to take you to every dive that will give him a kickback
pre-book on the web or by phone

why, oh why would you need to then drive to the hotel where you just checked in ?
or were you out price checking for so long that ended up on the other side of town and had to go back to the cheap hotels where you started out
best to learn some more before giving advice
I would ditch you if you started up a routine like that upon arrival

Let's look at this in a more realistic fashion, past suggestion # 1 (which actually was a good piece of advice - skip all solicitations at the airport).

Way to go, to suggest to a newbie to jump in a cab that is not in line -- the only thing you may end up with a HIGHER price, as the cabbie might feel that he can get away giving you a 'special price' instead of the regulated fares from the taxi line.
So, you're starting the trip off with a 400/600 Baht special cab fare... Thinking this is a special fare, you thank Kurt! (Only later will you realize you have been ripped off)

Tired from the flight, in a taxi filled with luggage, you go to MBK - only to realize later that every store within 5 steps of your hotel carries these cards as well. You slowly question Kurt's wisdom.

This bit should start to tip you off that Kurt is obviously quite liberal with the concept of truth or honesty. Oh well, he probably knows what he is doing.

This is where it alll unravels, as you come out of MBK, looking for your taxi, and unable to find it. After several hours, you give up, confident that your luggage is long since pawned, and you are now realizing that your documents, your passport, and your vitals are gone too. Slowly, you start to genuine curse Kurt, hoping you run into him at one point.

The new taxi you now had to hire (now, also realizing how cheap taxi prices really are), takes you, in turn, to a dozen hotels that all give him kick-backs. Several hours later, and 300 Baht from your actual hotel, you decide to go to the hotel you booked originally. It's a good thing you had some money in your wallet as well

Unfortunately, devoid of your luggage, you are now lacking the funds to pay for your hotel, and to check in. A caccophony of curses, involving the name 'Kurt' follows, at which point the receptionist perks up "Oh, you know Mr. Kurt? He sit over there!"
Fortunately, your embassy is able to provide deportation and repatriation services, after they get you out of jail - but it was worth it, you nailed that f***er and his idiotic suggestions. Oh well, now that you are on the blacklist for Thailand, there's always Cambodia...

Only to scam the girls and people he meets. Fake biz cards fake name and fake hotel location.....
ie:: ask their room price and try to get your hand on some address cards.

To hire a cab thats not in line saves you all of 50bht the airport cab charge, you still then have to sort out the fare, whether to go with the meter of fix a price. Depending on the time of day the meter can work cheaper if there's no traffic jams, don't ever use the meter if it's realy pissing down with rain cos BKK crawls when it rains. I much prefer to fix a price that includes the express way and let the cabby get on with it.
Kurt your suggestion to keep the cab waiting outside MBK while you did your Sim card shopping, tell me did you leave you luggage in the cab????
The business cards can come in handy when exchanging phone numbers, I can never remember mine usually give my phone to the but as others have said Pussy comes first other person and tell to call themselves, in that way we both get each others number.
Hotels: I always book ahead but then I've stayed in a lot of different hotels in BKK over the past 5 plus years.
My choice is to get one near a Skytrain station. So I can checkin, dump my bags, hop on a train and head for Barons/Tulip and let those cuties wash all the flight grim off me in a shared shower. Sim card and business cards what the F@#$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My number one is to prepare for BKK.
Try to get some decent rest before and during the flight. Take lots of water if you are doing a long haul in coach. Vitamins.
Have evrything you need in an easy to get to place. Condoms, ipod, charm etc.
I don't save the one dollar and just join the taxi Q.
get to the hotel.
SSS, lots of deoderant and talc, a little aftershave.
AND GO GET THE PUSSY!!!!

What you need 2 do 2 get a cheap Taxi is go to the Depature 2 floors up I think it is. Lots of cabs comming and most new once and you do not have to pay 50 THB.
