I am arriving in BK at 10:30pm and am wanting to get out of the airport as quickly as possible. I basically need to exchange some TC's and then grab a taxi. I've read that I should try and grab one on the departure level to save a few baht. Is this still possible after I exchange some money? Is it worth the hassle and will it save me much???
Also, I am staying at the Swiss Park Hotel. Is this a well known place that the cabbie will know of it? Should I just write down the address and give it to him?
Are you allowed to drink alcohol in Thai cabs? I'd love to have a few drinks to take the edge off on the way to my hotel 
Where is the best place to get a nice massage close to my hotel after my long flight from Vancouver??
This week is going so damn slow!!!! First trip to Thailand in 6 days and counting!!!

Hoping to get to my hotel by 1130. Im sure once I check in there will be plenty going on near to my hotel.
Also, I'm just wondering what the attitude is like in the bars between Farangs. Are people generally pretty friendly, talkative etc. I'm travelling solo for my first few nights in BK. Just wondering what its like in the bars as a solo guy trying to mingle with everyone!

No problem to ask the cabbie, but most of them don't speak much English. Your best bet would be to buy your booze of choice in the Tax-Free before you depart or even onboard the flight, then a couple of cans of mixers at one of the shops at the airport (or snag a couple of cans on onboard from the stewardess). I'm not sure about this, but I think you can get cold beer at those shops as well.

there is a big family mart or circle K one level down from arrivals.
not much chance for the cabbie to buy booze for you on the highway.
swiss park should be known. it is on soi 11, in front of the ambassador and you can see its name on the tower.
if not with much luggage it pays to hop up to departures and hail a cab that is unloading travellers.
there will be plenty going on at your time of arrival.

If you get a taxi at the designated taxi stand outside, you will go to the dispatcher booth and tell the person where you are going (usually a woman who will speak reasonable English) and they will write down the destination for the taxi driver on a slip of paper that you give to the driver. After the driver reads the slip of paper, get it back and keep it, because it has the taxi number on it in case there is any prolbem with the driver.

Once you get to the hotel, there will probably be some taxi cards (business card size) at the front desk that you can carry with you throughout your stay that you can give to other taxi drivers.
Don't bring cash, TC's are the way to go. Only cash enough TC's at the airport for the taxi and your first night's entertainment (exchange rates are not as good at the airport, although not horrible).
A taxi will cost about 300 baht total. Make sure the driver starts the meter as soon as you depart. The amount is based on the meter reading, plus you give the taxi driver money for the tolls, plus a tip (unless there is a problem). 5-10% tip is fine for good servcie. I believe there is also a 50 baht taxi departure fee (or maybe it is the arrival fee, I can't remember) the driver will add on to the fare.
The other option is a limo (just a slightly larger taxi without a meter) that will charge about 600-800 baht fixed fee. There will be people inside the the terminal trying to get you into one of these by saying "taxi".
I would forget about any booze in the taxi. You will be at the hotel in about 20-30 mintues. Although taxi's are generally very safe, if the driver thinks you are drunk, then you are just tempting him to do something you will not like. If you must have booze, get it at the airport.

The 50 Bh. should be included in the 300 Bh.
1st toll is 20 Bh. 2nd toll is 40 Bh. Meter-based Taxi fare to Soi 11 should be like 160 B. and there is the additional a/p fee (arrival only) of 50 Bh. as stated clearly in the dispatcher's booth... makes 270 Bh. all together... Pick up a taxi on dep level is illegal but possible and saves the 50 Bh a/p fee... worth going and hassle ??? Hmmm...
Swiss Park is in a little sub soi a few meters into Soi 11 r/h side. Avoid the taxis waiting in Soi 11 when leaving later, the're all rip off and only go fix (rip off) price.

Not.....
it is illegal for them to wait for a pick up, it is not illegal to make an immediate pick up, sometimes the security will take 50B from the driver and let him wait a couple of minutes.....
no risk for the passenger at all.....I've even seen the security note the number of the driver as having made a pick up in case of future problems....i always go up even with large luggage, beats the shitty taxi's that queue below.

He may not be able to make it that long without refueling... consider, if he needs to ask where to get booze for the cab ride...

most of the GoGo bars aren't really set up for "mingling". In many cases a waitress/hostess will try to steer you to a seat when you first enter. So take a look around and see if there is someplace you would like toi sit with a good view, and also some space for company to join you. You can also just not sit down at all and take a look around to see if any ladies catch your interest before sitting down and ordering a drink.
many, if not most, of the guys in the bars will also be flying solo so don't worry about this. They usually are looking to meet some girls to have a good time with, not to make a nice new friend from another western country.
