While in Bangkok I told the taxi driver to take me to NEP; he agreed but drove me to the end of Sukumvit Road(?) where it was a T junction. On the left the road continued and on the right was a hotel, did not get the name as it was too dark and wasn't so well sign posted. He took the right turn, past this hotel into a very poorly lit area and drove around this big white abandoned white building that was at least 20 stories high. After many right turns he stops at an entrance with two doors.
Going inside I saw two pool tables on the left, a reception/bar area on the right and 2 lifts that had mongers with their chosen girls waiting to go up for boom boom. At the far end was a double door that led into a fishbowl. The prices were 3000B for the average ones and 4000B for the REALLY awesome quality ones for 2 hours. I didn't have enough cash that night and the papasan wouldn't budge (speaking to him it turns out he is Chinese). I asked if this was Nana Entertainment Plaza, he said yes. I became confused because I thought it was three stories high. I asked where the other levels were he said only his fish bowl was open as the others were under renovation...man I was completely confused at this stage.
Looking around me there were a tonne of middle aged tourists (Indians) and a handful of Caucasians ogling at the girls. I even saw a f***ing tour bus drop a load of Indians off for sex...!!
I left this place and caught a taxi back to my hotel as that was a f***ing confusing night. I wanted to just watch go go dancers but ended up at a fishbowl...does anyone have a clue where I visited? Taxi driver couldn't speak English.
Was highly impressed by the girls there though; their make up skills were extra-ordinary to the point where it made them look like japanese cartoon characters!

... but, you now know you were just scammed... pros at identifying noobs to victimize, Thais detected something noobish in your scent and channeled you into a scam controlled at each end... you'll figure out how to lose that scent.
... you were obviously not at NEP, and a general rule when dealing with most Thais in this industry is that if their lips are moving, they are lying... so, the papa-san doesn't hesitate to offer up, "But of course, this is NEP!"
... the taxi driver probably sensed you had no idea where NEP is located, which marked you... directing a taxi to "take me to Soi Nana," or "to Soi 4" is a bit less noobish... never ever, ever be seen on the street with a map in hand... the scammers will blindly race across Sukhumvit traffic to get to you first.
... once you have the basic city layout, coordinates for the adult entertainment zones and a few words of Thai, you should not be Shanghai'd into another scam.
... a place pulling tour buses reeks of scam... the 3-4,000 THB prices are generous enough to kick-back to the drivers who pull customers to them.
... a small tuition to pay for a noob, so don't get too worked-up... could be much worse if he channeled you into a nest of well-turned katoeys.
... if you've not boned-up on the high-frequency Thai scams, you might want to do a quick Internet search... the smiling Thais, men and women, are very polished and very practiced at scamming.
... the "my metre broken" taxi scam; the "you are lucky man" scam; the "wat closed for special ceremony" scam; the "special once a year gem sale for Queen's birthday" scam; the "you damaged my jet-ski" scam; the "we are doing a street survey" scam; the "3,000 THB fine for dropping butt on the street" fake cop scam; the tuk-tuk anything scam; and on, and on, and on.
... and these are before you can even get inside of an adult entertainment venue.
... do some homework... keep your defenses up... the good news is that Thais generally merely take a piece of your wallet only... they will gleefully befriend you and then rip you off, with no sense of guilt... but, you are unlikely to have a Thai put a gun to the back of your head a threaten to blow your brains out if you don't give him your wallet and watch.

Sounds like a place I ended up in some 30 or so years ago. My new best friend, the taxi driver, took me there and dropped me off.
I don't remember the bus loads of Koreans but there weren't bus loads of Koreans then.

My experience is that cabbies who deliberately take you the wrong way do not exhibit any apparent sign of friendliness. They are overbearing, unsmiling and unusually inquisitive about you, traits that I have learnt to read as warning signals.
A couple of years back, despite my self assurance as a regular visitor to LOS, I had one unpleasant experience. Breezily took a cab from my hotel around 10 at night, sat beside the driver in the front seat and asked him to take me to Patpong. The guy started the cab and then rubbed my thigh briefly repeating "Patpong" with a mock chuckle. He took me in the direction of Patpong but then somewhere I lost my bearings as he entered strange alleys and soon he halted outside a white building in a deserted corner and said "Patpong massage."
As I remained in the cab and asked him to take me to Patpong night market the papasan came out and tried to open the door. It was getting to be unpleasant as the papasan looked more like a bad guy from a movie. I smiled and waied at him and said no and luckily he backed off and the driver took me to where I wanted to go. He asked for double the meter and when I protested he coldly told me "taxi mafia very bad you know." I handed him 200 baht and left a bad dream behind.
Shit happens.

Yeah, it does - somewhere in the higher numbers, around 100+, there's a T-junction type intersection, pretty big, before it continues.

But he ended up at Plaza Entertainment, which was pretty obvious from the description (Prince Hotel is the other big building on premises that the taxi drove around of).
Also, counter to magnum's typical assumption that you were being scammed by the taxi driver, it's a very easy mistake to misunderstand "Entertainment Plaza" and "Plaza Entertainment" - especially in a language that frequently switches word positions.
Not saying that it couldn't have been a commission-drive 'mistake', but sometimes it's good to give them the benefit of the doubt.
