What's the law in BKK concerning drinking beer in public? I mean is it OK to like drink a cold one while walking down the street or do you have to be in a bar/club?

i've never had a problem walking along the road with a bottle of beer in hand,or sitting around the 7-11 looking for a partner for the night with a couple beers in hand.
never saw anyone else who had a problem.

Nokna: You've done that in Bangkok? I suppose you may have but sometimes I get the impression that you forget that all of Thailand is not like Patong (and maybe that all the girls are not like BGs?)
Bob: In Pattaya, Phuket and resort area it will be no problem. In Bangkok, though you won't necessarily be given any legal hassle, it is not really the done thing. At the very least it's not likely to make a good impression with the Thais in general and that can affect the experience you have here. Why not sit down at a beer bar or outdoor restuarant etc and chill while you have your beer?

The reason I asked about this is not because I have something against being in a bar. TRUST ME...I don't. 
I was just wondering about the legality of it just in case I get in the mood for a cold one while walking around sightseeing/exploring. Or if I should worry about a potential run-in with the cops if by some chance whatever girl I pick up opens one up. Given the laws in the U.S. about walking around with an open container, I like to play it safe and know what the rule is before going to another country.

I see your point. A Thai girl, even a BG isn't likely at all to do that. As for the laws it's nowhere near as stringent as in the US.

someone asked a question and i posted on my experiences.
no i have'nt done it in BKK,but you know full well BKK is not a place i go to.
HKT is my playground and i can only tell of what of what happens there.
i have'nt a clue what the situation is in BKK,but in HKT it is the norm to have a beer in hand at the end of the night.
yes i know nothing about BKK,so in future i will not post anything which concerns the city.

For f_ck's sake Nokna I say what I did because that's what I think. People ask questions about places that are quite different than Patong and sometimes girls that are very different from BGs but you will tell them about your experiences in Patong with BGs. I've seen this many times from you. That's why I said it.
Silent Bob specifically asked about Bangkok. Why answer with an experience that doesn't apply?
If you don't post anything about BKK in the future -- a typical reaction from you -- it makes no difference to me.

Ummmm to get back to the question in hand, - not really considered the right thing to do strolling up Sukhumvit with a bottle in hand, but to sit at a sidewalk bar, is no problem, and the area between Sukhumvit sois 13-15 .. for those of us in BANGKOK !! - is perhaps an ideal hangout to watch the "opera of the street" - owing to laws, this area is now only selling booze [ Thai whiskey, beer ] from 10pm onwards - however other places, where food is sold, will also have beer/thai whiskey available all hours.
