I was in PTY recently and in Marine 2 Disco I saw these 2 foot water pipes that nearly everyone was smoking from. My BG asked for one and started smoking with her friend. Does anyone know what is smoked in those pipes? I was just concerned with the legality of it since my job drug tests me often. Thanks.

I haven't been to Marine in a coon's age, but your description fits well an Arab-style water pipe or hookah. What is most often smoked in them is tobacco, usually flavored. Applecake is very popular and is a good smoke.

They use a different hand for the backside than they use for everything else. Also, I doubt that the ones that can read and write engage in the same practice you allude to

Singleman, when I was in Marine2 I didn't see anyone smoking the shisha (that's what they're called in the middle-east). Unless they've introduced it in the last coupla months. But if you step out of Marine 2 and turn right, there's a row of outdoor cafes where people have a smoke or two.
Re: your question about what's in the hagar (that's the container that sits on top of the pipe, covered with the aluminium foil), rest assured it's all good. It's actually a mixture of tobacco and flavoured molasses (called mu'assel ). They come in many flavours but my favourites are mint and strawberry.
The shisha is probably the purest way to enjoy tobacco if you must since the smoke is filtered through water.
Also, there are no hygiene problems associated with it because they cover the mouthpiece with a fresh aluminium foil when you order a shisha. The cost is 100B a shisha in Bangkok so Pattaya should be about the same.
